Clipping Off the Water leaves (Sucker leaves)

I agree. I cut any shade leaf during flower that is shading the buds. I've never feed straight sugar but I do use a molasses solution to thicken the buds. I swear to molassas.

Iwas wondering if say maple syrup would have the same effect as mollassas. Seeing as they have every flavor of maple syrup imaginable. Would the flavor transfer as well as the sugars?

Not a fact. A myth. It is imposible, even from rooted clone, to measure such things. Genetics off all plants are different. Even clones after rooting, have different genes than the mother. The only way to test such a thing would be to let one plant grow and trim one. But the plants would have to be absolutley identical in every way in order to prove or deisprove it's benefits.

What is certain is that lower buds, without light grow very small. Als,o cutting shade leaves will increase air flow and light penetration. If the lower buds have more light. They'll grow bigger. Thus ADDING to your yeild. The questions is would that increase make up for or even improve on the negitive effects of trimming.

There is no question, high stress or low stress methods of training required the plant be stressed somewhat. No question the less stress the better. But to say without a doubt that trimming is solely negative to marijuana is ludachris. But there are thosands of different genetics. One strain might halt growth when trimmed, others may take off. Cutting shade leaves that cover buds is going to increase the size of said bud. That's a fact. Whether it's beneficial or detrimental to the plants growth, is anyones guess. Just that, a guess.

My adivce would be to focus on your plants. Only the grower can say how HIS plants are doing. If you think it helps; Your their Dr. Greenthumb, you make the decision as to what's best for them. I would suggest getting light to all the buds. I always try to move or keep the leaf in someway that doesn't require trimming. But sometimes it's got to go. I would say if it's got to be cut, do it after watering.

Hope I've helped,

a strain that is pretty much 1 main cola shouldn't need trimming, ione with alot of branching and using a weaker light u may want to consider VERY MINOR trimming

i also thought it is worth mentioning that greenhouse seeds always trim of ALL leaves in the last week of flowering and they have won multiple cannabis cups

also ur buds may look bigger because they are growing wothout anything else to distract your attenetion also u are viewing the whole bud with no major leaves covering parts so while the bud naturally grows it LOOKS bigger even though it's actually growing slower or even less

just my 0.02 cents

i just did the math on the lumen output on my system and i got roughly 26,000 lumens. and that consists of 1 70w hps bulb (i had a 100 watt but it cooked one of the buds on my plant a lil), A 65w big cfl, A 42W cfl floodlight, A 22w cfl, a 20w 18 inch florescent light, and two Dual 34W linear Florescent light fixtures. The whole system runs roughly 335watts and it puts out almost 26,000 lumens. i think thats pretty good right?

I guess you either get it or you dont. But please keep cutting leaves off your plant. Remember that its a weed were dealing.with. Give those buds all the light they cn get and I gaurantee you you will have outrageous yields!

70w hps - 7000 lumens
65W Large cfl - 4000 lumens
cfl floodlight - 1300 lumens
22w cfl - 900 lumens
both dual florescent light fixtures (4 lights) - 10,600 lumens
18 inch florescent light ?watt- 1000 lumens

Wait my badd Roughly 25,000 lumens, my mistake.

Accually damn i just realized that is good, cuz i only had to pay like 50 bucks, i only had to pay for two of the lights, i already had the rest of them.

dude I paid 135 for my 600 watt hps and a 150 cfm blower for the enclosed hood...I never get why you guys spend so much money on cfls...and since you are growing with cfls those plants are gonna need all the sun leaves it can get homie

i heard that if you cut everything down to the stem a week before flowering you can get a pound, is this true

some of the info on this site is pure crap:wall::wall::wall:

Yeah, but i didnt spend very much money at all. i was lucky enough to already have most of them. And i know, thats why im not trimming anymore leaves. Honestly im just waiting for the trichomes to change color so i can harvest, and from what i could see this morning, im probably going to be harvesting in a week. By the way can somebody provide me with some pictures of trichomes that are ready so i can get a pretty good idea of what to look for. Im pretty sure i already know, i just want to be sure.

depends what high you are looking for. trics cloudy head high nice. turning amber/cloudy medium head and body buzz, amber you are baked and sitting on the couch going wow! hope this helps. i alwqays split my harvest, harvest some of the top buds when all cloudy just a tinge of amber nice high, and leave the rest for when they start going to amber all over thats my go to sleep buzz. usually i harvest 60% of the top colas when cloudy/little amber, then it opens up the lower buds to grow and ripen even more, let go amber and stony high. so i can get 2 or 3 different highs out of the same plant.

Guys, be nice. No reason to start the name calling. Toss your 2 pence in. If they kick it back Pick it up and walk away. No reason to fight to help someone.

Now I'm more in the camp of cutting the lower branches to keep bud growth up top (main cola) but keeping those food-factories (fan leaves) in place.

basically can this thread end with 'its ok to trim afew fan leaves off here and there when needed to give space so light can reach your lower bud sites however don't massacre the poor bugger leaving only bud and no leaves or your gonna seriously harm/ stunt your plant'
