Platinum LED

There are a bunch of journals showing great looking plants under pled lamps...
MarsHydro/TopLED growers have the same thing. Some of it has to do with how almost any light will veg great looking plants. Some has to do with lack of details about how many watts are run. (I.e., if they're running at 50w/sq ft this will make up for the inefficiencies of epi-whatever diodes.).

I just got great results from 22w/sq ft of Cree lightbulbs sold at Home Depot with 10 year warranty. Doesn't mean the PLED and MarsHydro guys don't have nice looking plants. But, why spend a lot of money on epi-whatever LEDs and the electricity to power them hotter?

Also, if PlatinumLED's lights are so good, why do they have to stoop to the level of stealing AdvancedLED's name to get customers? (That alone should warn anyone away from Platinum. Why support a business that conducts itself that way? It's contrary to the 420 spirit.).

I lasted five days before being banned at 420 mag for recommending non-sponsored gear years ago.......@hosebomber is the only smart cat in that lighting section, doubt he even frequents it anymore.

Since irishboy that place had been about selling the "secret sauce" to unknowing growers.......shame

420 has been emailing me about paying them to be a sponsor. It's like $1200 a year.

Didn't you know 1/1000th of a watt of special sauce spectrum will out do 1000 watts of the most efficient CXBs? The new A51 will use just three 0.25w unknown LEDs, @ 0.05% efficient, but because it's secret sauce, it will grow, wait for it.... about a pound, per 0.75w lamp!

Get in line everyone.

ya i agree with all you folks. im def not into jumping on some marketing gimmicks. I have beef w the BS that pled drops. But it is a fact that you can get a nice crop from a pled lamp.

420 is liberal compared to IC. School.a moderator at IC and be a permanent pariah there.

YES hosebomber is the sharpest led dude @420. he is not on very much. There are no informed led discussions that i know of on 420.

Lastly i bought an optic vero so my money goes to known quality components and non rebranded generic gear.

bro i def do not think that pleds are anything special.

Im not justifying either pled or mars . But to keep it real, im saying, you can, without a doubt, grow superb flowers with those lights.

I own 4 of them. Go with COBS - the 3watt LEDs do not grow weight.

PS: yes they will grow but if you are looking for any kind of volume forget about it without vegging for '6 months' like Mark likes throw around that corso guy as his best performer over @ 420.

I completely agree with you beodrone. I used a PLED for about 75% (missed first 2 weeks of flowering) on a grow w/ HPS and the PLED plants would not stack weight like the HPS. While the flowers were nice, they were not anything better than HPS and yielded quite a bit less.

Good news. I just spoke with Mark at Platinum LED. He said they can make lights with a veg spectrum only. It would have 2 veg switches. Why buy a T5 at that point?

These lights have a good warrantee, and a good $/watt. At the very least, you don't have to keep buying bulbs like an HPS or T5.

For flowering I like CREE COB's.

To be completely honest it appears Mark has changed his case completely to deal with the criticism of copying diamond's case. He also has appeared to change the spectrum a bit. Might be worth a shot but do let us know what you think if you go this route!!

Do you have a link to anything showing what you've described. I don't see any change on PlatinumLED's Amazon pages where he's still engaging in an obvious AdvancedLED name rip-off.

I honestly don't understand why anyone would consider buying anything from someone like that. There are plenty of good lights out there that don't use epi-whatever diodes and don't have to stoop to such disreputable practices to attract customers.

That people who fell for the name mixup have nice grow journals, or that 420mag has low standards for who they'll accept sponsor money from aren't compelling reasons, in my opinion.

The case on my Platinum P150 is dark gray. Graphite color. I love that little light. I use it for veg. It says they use Bridgelux. Doesn't matter to me. I just wanted a light that uses low power for veg, that I don't have to replace bulbs like a T5 or HID. Platinum has the lowest $/watt out of all the old school pretty colorful lights.

For flowering use COB's or Area 51.

It says they use Bridgelux.
See:

Platinum Series LED Lights use only top quality 3w high output LEDs from makers such as US made Bridgelux and Epistar
-- http://platinumgrowlights.com/faq
This is typical of scammy LED grow light sellers. On one page they'll say "We use Bridgelux." On another page they give additional details, such as "Bridelux and Epistar." The former statement isn't literally untrue. It's just incomplete. All they have to do is make one light with Bridgelux (or just one LED is Bridgelux) and the latter statement is true. It's a clever way to have an "out" if someone tears their light down and discovers epi-whatever diodes. But, it helps customers believe what they want to believe.

The above analysis is consistent with a company that would deceive customers with shameless name ripoffs.

The case on my Platinum P150 is dark gray. Graphite color.
So PlatinumLED is continuing to deceive potential customers with its AdvancedLED name rip-off -- but delivering something else? (Sounds worse to me.).

Platinum has the lowest $/watt out of all the old school pretty colorful lights.
That's not true. $230 for 100w actual is $2.30 per watt. You can get epi-whatever lights such as MarsHydro or Vipar(Ebay) for $1 per watt and a 3-year warranty. Or, you can get a light with efficient diodes for $2.60 per watt and a lifetime warranty. It will flower as well.

I'm sure PlatinumLED will grow like a MarsHydro -- and there are plenty of growers who are satisfied with that. But, Mars (and other epi-whatever brands) don't engage in the borderline fraudulent tactics PlatinumLED does.

I found the discussion over at 420 mag forum. Is it OK to post other forum links here on RIU?
Should be ok. But, I'd still wonder why this is evidence that PlatinumLED is responding to cricitism about their disreputable name-ripoff of AdvancedLED -- when the Amazon pages continue to be a name ripofff.

OK here's the thread. Mark from Platinum gets into why the pages are not updated and such on page 3 IIRC.
I looked at page 3 and didn't see anything relevant to what you claimed. And, I don't have time to read dozens of posts from people suckered into a scammy LED.

You and I both know that any excuses about not changing his Amazon content (while claiming to be addressing complaints about name-ripoff) is BS. If it were brought to your attention that you were ripping off a reputable company's name I'm sure you'd delete those pages within minutes. Unless, of course, it was deliberate.

Hey all,

After reading the posts earlier this month I decided to put up the other led. Here's the change. I believe I may stunted their growth by having them too close to the lights so I have raised them a solid 18" from the girls (hopefully). I was really expecting them to fill out considerably more since the span of my last post on this thread.

Is this due to the LEDs being too close or just poor lighting in general?

I just checked that thread from 420 and I can only say wow! The newest and greatest LED grow light ever created? Ha Ha Ha Ha I gonna be laughing histarically! There are def major suckers on 420 that just chose the wrong forums to learn about this tech. That's the problem rite there! Companies paying $ to websites to scam uneducated pepes out there $. LIKE I said before! I would consider buying Platinum,KIND,if they dropped there price 50%. Oh and the warranty service has all gone cob replacement! So your buying 2 year old tech at premium! Don't get suckered into warranty like I did my 1st time! Come on its the same players up top! Apache tech, A51,optic lighting, Amare, I might be missing 1 or 2. DIY also! cant forget about that!

20 inches for veg is good and 16-18 for flowers. Are they thirsty?
