Zen of Growing, please review

So there i was, trying to figure out the most efficient way to utilize my grow area in harmony with the growth of the plant and my own smoking habits when i had a thought and id like to share it with you.

Screw vegging for X amount of time and all that. Perhaps i should base my schedule around the plant.

My schedule used to be:
4 weeks germination/seedling
8 weeks veg
8-12 weeks flower

After a few grows, i realize that this cant work.

I modified to:
3 weeks germination/seedling
5 weeks of veg
8-12 weeks of flowering.

Not bad, but its still basing things on a timetable. I am considering this:
Germination seedling until 4th set of true leaves then FIM
FIM sixth sets of leaves
Veg until 8th set of leaves then FIM
Flower until 2/3 of the hairs turn orange

Perhaps you would like to comment.

I have to say that IMO to reach zen with your plants you have to become one with your plants. This is to say your right about judging when to change cycles on your plants life. when theyre tall enough you can veg them, when theyre bushy enough you can flower them, and when they look ripe you harvest!
