Plain and simple, SB 1449 drops the current misdemeanor charge for simple possession of an ounce or less of cannabis to a civil infraction with a maximum fine of $100.

Please visit the California NORML page and click the link to send Gov. Schwarzenegger an e-mail asking him to sign this decriminalization measure into law.

link to text of the bill here

Prop. 19 may or may not happen on Nov. 2. This CAN happen tomorrow.

Ohio was one of the first to pass a law like this.

Over 3 1/2 ounces is just a $100 fine. (although I think they moved it to $150)
Too bad nothing else can get through ... not even medical.

What's silly is the fact that you get in bigger trouble for having a pipe than a bill 'ole bag of marijuana.

Hell... why no just call his office and leave so many messages that the voicemail gets full? The DPA just recently had some success with that. :-D

The world you live in must be nice ....

Purple skies and pillow grass ... a place where up is sideways and down is backwards.

I do live in a fairly nice world. After all, I've worked hard to make it so. I'm sorry if that bothers your sensibilities. Maybe you need a bowl... oh wait... 8)

NY has the 100$ an Oz slap on the wrist too. But you need to read carfully. In NY the law says 1 oz. = 25grams Not the 28gram it truely is. There are also alot of other shady loop holes like what it was stored in when they cought you. If its in a baggy they skip the slap on the wrist possession and they charge you with intent to distribute booya class A felony. They catch you with the same amount in a baby food jar slap on the wrist possession.

Lots of laws are here to protect us. Lots of laws are here to profit from us. Read the fine print and know your local laws. And never carry weed in NYS in a bag.

Mass has the 100 dollar fine too.. marijuana use has gone up to 29% again in a lot of the high schools. I am one of these people who think pot should be legal but I think teenagers should wait until there brains are fully developed before they start smoking habitually. Unfortunately teens and pot go and hand and hand.

That would require subscribing to the idea that cannabis causes neurological damage. This, as anyone not still brainwashed by D.A.R.E. knows, is a big ole giant lie. In fact, there have been studies of Root mothers, their children and their lifestyles that have shown that there is no neurological defect or deficiency from lifelong exposure, directly or indirectly. The problem with teens, or anyone really, and cannabis isn't one of association. Much as with alcohol, the problem is one of titration and self-control.

You may want to reserve such commentary for the whichever numbskull is heading into office. Schwarzenegger was inept and made a lot of mistakes, especially in his early years, but I think we may find that he wasn't as bad as things are probably about to get.
