You Bet Your Garden

There's a very informative radio show that I want to share with you guys. Some of the information might be local to my hardiness zone but much of it is universal. Mike McGrath hosts a show called YOU BET YOUR GARDEN. It's a weekly show that talks about anything related to gardening and plants in general and invites listeners to call in and ask questions or share information. He's also mildly entertaining. I've seen him on the lecture circuit and he's done YouTube vids for the TED series. The show features podcasts so you can listen from your mobile device or laptop. There's a link at the very bottom of the page for podcasts from previous shows.
If you listen to one show you'll be hooked. I might link the previous shows to this thread if I can to make it easier for you guys. But here's the site so you can check it out.

I'll look into stitcher I've actually never heard of it

Here's a link to the Q and A index. The database is huge. Almost every garden problem you could think of is there. Got a slug problem? It's listed. Want to aerate your soil but don't know how, it's there too. It's worth checking out.

Cool.
Stitcher is just a program that collects podcasts.
I'm a pod guy when I cant sleep.
Hard to find good gardening pods.
I noticed in his recent shows he hoes over basic worm farming.
Im gonna start there.
At least with a worm farm I will
have hundreds of friends.

I noticed that on u bet ur gardens podcast they just play random music and take out the commercials from the original show. Elevator music...lol...he really hypes up rock phosphate. I already use it for MJ growing. Not so much for my vveg garden but ima try it for my veg garden this year

I think im on my 4th year fighting my blueberry bushes. They look like they might do pretty well this year.
I have been dumping my old soil from my grows on the beds.
The pearlite looks out of place but no one notices.
Ive been using glacial rock dust for a while but I think it may be too slow for a short indoor cycle. Maybe the blueberries
will get some benefit over time.

I want to try aza or whatever its called but I found excellerite first so im trying it next.
I think its a bit more soluable.
Probably overthinking it.

Anyway good podcast.
I like his approach to moles with nemotoads. Ill have to try it.

Penn Sate has an agg extension that I use to get my garden soil and my MJ soils tested for fertility etc. It's cheap...like $10.
It's especially invaluable for community gardens because soils there have to be tested for heavy metals before they can lease out the plots to members. And I think even home gardeners should test for heavy metals before they plant veggies. Even pesticides break down in soil but metals don't. And their tests are very accurate. That's another plus.
