Yet another newbie first time AG grow

Yes it is true I am another newbie going to give the AG a try. And like most others, I got inspired by reading the forums and seeing how much help others give through the process. Therefore, I feel that I can sucessfully grow some

So, lets begin with the materials. ( I obtained the general list from the growing guide):

1 AG Deluxe
1 master gardeners kit
5 germinated seeds from my collection
1 timer with 2 outlets
1 powerstrip
1 7" air stone
1 pump
1 PH up & down
1 PH Test kit (on the way couldn't find one in the stores)
1 10" fan
1 figure 8 cord


I do not have the other suggested materials, becuase I could not find them anywhere. Any idea where I can find:

2 plug in light sockets?
2 Y socket adapters?
Roll Mylar?

I've looked everywhere and still cant find anything. Hopefully someone can help me out. But the lights on the AG Deluxe are really strong so I'm thinking they might be suffeciant, but again newbie here so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I germinated my seeds and one of them sprouted inside the paper towel and 4 other sprouted normally. I know that I should only do 1 or 2 per grow due to room constraints, but im going to let these 5 go and the healthiest ones ill keep and get ride of the others.

Make sure to cover up those pods, with those paper seals. It helps prevent a few things.


Mylar you need to order from online. At least i would have had to. Y spliter for lights. Any make retail home store should have them.

Yeah i have heard bad things about these aero gardens so i am curious to see how it pans out

Nice, i saw on the forum that you got 1.9 is that right? Thats pretty good, thats more than I would expect.

I'll keep updating those pictures as often as possible. Also, I did look in those stores and nothing.

Is there anywhere I can find them online like the mylar?

i am a first time grower with one plant. if this plant turns out to be male, i would like to make cannabutter with it. would anyone be able to provide simple, step-by-step instructions on how to make the butter? most of the threads that i have read on this topic are full of opinion, contradiction, and just plain confusing.

just a simple recipe, that is all i need.

Most all ways work. The easiest way, I believe, is to use the boiling water method.

Start a pot of boiling water (like a couple quarts or so). A standard is to add one quarter ounce bud for every 1/2 cup of butter, but you can add more if you like. You'll want to grind up the bud pretty fine, then just add everything to the water. Let it boil for about 30 minutes to an hour, then just put it in the fridge til all the butter solidifies at the top. After that, just scoop it out and use it like normal butter.

Have you checked home depot or lowes? That's where I picked mine up from. They should be right where all the light switches and weird plug adapters and shit are. Kind of next to the lighting area.

I did and they have the sockets, but not the Y sockets/adapters. They have the outdoor flood lights that look like a Y socket.

But they arn't the plug in ones they are the one you have to wire. I have no idea how to do that. Any information on how to do that would be great.

But I think I might just buy two old lamps and pull the socket out of them and buy the Y socket adapter. Would that work or should I look again at Home Depot or Lowes?

What do they look like? Is there a brand name to look for?

They're just piled into boxes. The y-sockets should be in single plastic bags.

Yes the AG lights are barely good enough to veg one plant, the more light the better. Just look for the bigger actual wattage CFL's, your going to need DAYLIGHT spectrum lights, it will say on the package. For instance, i was using the 23 watt, 100 watt equivalents, so look for the biggest ones you can find, and shove em in there

I found the Y splitter at a Do-It Center, but you should be able to find them online, but its weird some of your stores didnt haven them,

Update Day 3:

Below are the plants as of day 3. As you can see the one in the front isn't wasting any time.

As for the extra lights and sockets, etc... I will go tonight and get all of that and get that extra light in there.

Also, should I have the fan on now or should I wait longer?

The fan can wait, they'll be good, shouldnt get too hot in there at all

Should i plug the socket adapter into an extension cord?

here's how i have mine:

Should be available at HD/Lowes/Walmart, or any other big hardware store... Ace hardware, maybe?

You can either use that method or do what I did and hang power strips above your plants. That way, when they get bigger, it's easier to move them around the plant.
