I've read the grow facts, and it didn't totally answer my question. But first let me state that I have never ever grown anything before, definite 1st timer, and I was curious as to what day/night ratio would be preferrable for seedlings/young plants? I don't want to fry them. Shortly I will be using african violet soil as my growing medium, along with the sunlight until it get's too cold here. I have a grow set up which consists of a table lamp and a crumpled tin foil wrapped box that wraps around to reflect light. I'm working on fluorescents...

a crumpled tin foil wrapped box, lol ... Some growers are different ... usually for where you are, a grower would use 24/0 or 18/6 .... might need something stronger than that table lamp though.

Depending if you are in a hurry or not, if in fact you are in a hurry, I would recommend 24/7 for the hole veg stage and if your not then go with the 18/6 until you flower, however some say 18/6 is better for root growth, i'm doing mine 24/7 and they are doing great also I wouldn't use tinfoil, if you're short on cash try something like polywrap they come in rolls their colored on one side and the other side shiny for gift wrapping, I used dollar store wrapping paper, so far it doesn't seem to be hurting them but I am going to get the polywrap wrapping paper the next time I'm in town, if you have some extra shells do a search for mylar or some panda film.

Good luck on yur grow!
