That guy sounds like he was full of shit. They are not illegal in america. There would be no reason why they would be illegal any where really.

I've heard of internet Y-splitters and cable Y-Splitters being illegal, even if they're for the same house and user. Never heard of this though. I would just shop at another store, the guy obviously is a scrub.

also-

if they ask, don't say CFL. they are commonly used for growing in the uk as they produce little heat.

maybe say that you have just upgraded your house lighting to led bulbs, and was thinking because they are such low wattage, you could run two in specific locations, such as the kitchen.
do your homework first so you know the wattages and such.

in thhe US the bulb bases are the same.

No more research is in order, sheesh.

Walk right back in the same store, point directly at the item you want & telly zippy hardware clerk to bag em up god speed,if he asks what you want them for tell him its research into why his store will go out of business from fuckin with customers.

There is no saftey issue from running cfl with a Y no matter where you live.

yes go back and look for them yourself and if and when you find them, tell the manager or superviser about the asshole who said there illegal

thanks for the rep guys, actually took my cousin and told him to act like the maintenance guy for our ceiling.
And voila the same wanker came and asked what can I do, so my cousin said, my client asked for something, and he
was then speaking about how I didnt explain what I need it for and all the bs. But he had some different cap..
Im just going to make my own lamp holder socket. Atleast saved 60%.
Searched all the supermarkets and hardware here and they dont even stock it so there is something about them, only way is to get them on-line.
I heard its illegal in Australia though....

I can understand a certain illegality in europe cuz of the marijuana laws there and since ya'll run on 220V vs 110V in the states. But truly they're not illegal anywhere, i only know cuz my cousin lives in germany and she's growing in her closet lol
