WtW's First grow log

I am a "first time" grower... the reason i use quotes is because i've tried once before but it was a complete failure due to my complete ignorance in the subject. I have been lurking here for about 4 days now since i found some nutes in my brother's closet. I have always been interested in growing something- anything, for as little cash as possible.

I have taken some pictures, forgive me on the quality they were taken with a 1.3Mega pixel webcam. My current set up is:
- 4 lamps (3 are set up because the other one i have has a very large hood)
- 4 CFL 20w 6500k bulbs (vegetation)
- 5 CFL 26w 2700k bulbs (flowering)
- 12 Jiffy pellets (only using 3 at a time)
- Miracle grow African violet soil (i am not sure if this a was a good choice, but i saw it in another thread and figured i'd try it.)
- two 11" clay pots and one 10" clay pot..
- a standard analog thermometer
- a small osculating fan (about 10"-12")
- Holland secret nutes, including root helper and vitamin-b bottle.

---->Bada Bang: 5-0-2
---->Bada Bloom: 0-6-4

Now, before people say "you need more light" or "get rid of that tin foil" i am not expecting that much from this. I do not expect to grow the best, or the most bud in town. This is an experiment before i invest too much money into this. I plan on sticking to CFL bulbs, im not going to move to HID or HDS bulbs because im working in a closet that still has clothes in it... a structure fire is something i generally don't want. If you genuinely feel that i need more light i can probably buy more lamps for the room.

I just want some help, maybe some other cheap resources i might NEED. also i will logging my progress. so far what i have done is germinated 1 seed with the paper towel method the other 2 i didn't wait for them to crack... bad idea i know, but i'm being a bit anxious. I do notice a light leak from under my door, i am covering it up with the red cloth to the left of the door.

Any recommendations would be nice. Any questions I'll answer them as best i can.

happy growing to the rest of you :leaf:

:wall: today was a bittersweet day. let me update you guys a bit.

Bad News:
Seed #1 died... i left the house and when i came back one of my lamps which has a 26w CFL in it fell over and completely covered the seedling and the little sprout was touching the bulb. and when i got back, it was almost completely shriveled up with a black spot on it... so i trashed it.

Seed 2 is dieing, once again i left the house so i shut the door on the closet... bad idea... one of my lights has no vents around the base of the bulb and it got really hot and the closet was at about 100 degrees when i got back, and it was more closed up and turning a pale brownish green. but i think it can be saved.

Good News:
Seed #3 finally sprouted after 4 days.

i found some new lamps including one t5 lamp (at least i think it is a t5...)

Here are some pictures of my progress so far... hopefully i can get past seedling stage so i can let out a sigh of relief.

i am trying to not use nutes for now, i figure i have some time before i REALLY need them. i want to learn more about them before i start fiddling with them. while i was at the store looking for soil, i didn't know what to get... i recognized this soil from another thread... so i got it.
im not sure how great it is though... it does have a 6.0-6.8 pH....
