Black plastic sump pit with lid for reservoir with a submersible pump that runs drip lines to 4 separate 28" wide by 30" long by 2 1/2" tall washer machine trays. Each tray will have either 8 or 10 5" x 5" square pots. Each pot uses co co grow media and has a drip line set up on a timer to feed just enough to spill a little extra into tray then let dry out and so on. Would this work? should I use a different media? This method would keep plants low to the ground (have a short ceiling) and be very inexpensive and low maintenance SOG under 2 1000 watt hps and with a c02 bucket.bongsmilie

should work but only as a drip system if you ever decide to turn it into a flood table, your going to need taller trays.

for a drip i would use rockwool to start but to veg mothers and flower it really would be better to do flood and drain. in flood and drain, there would be more room for the roots to grow not to mention the maintanance of a drip system depending on what nutes your using they can get clogged, you have to deal with all the little drippers/holders and not to mention all the 1/4in tubes all over, and if your timer isn't working/set right it could make a mess of your watering schedual. flood and drain it really is almost impossible to over water and no parts that you have to worry about on your table.

How can I make one super low to the ground? My ceiling is kind of low. . . . . I really want flood and drain but I don't know exactly how to build one that is low profile. What medium would you suggest for a flood and drain?:weed:

clay grow rocks, and for low profile, the only kind of res i could find with a low profile and still a good amount of water are the ones you buy for flood and drain systems at a hydro store or online, i didn't want to pay 100 bucks for a res so i opted to just use a rubbermaid 35 gal, about a foot and a half tall, and i built a table for my floodtable to sit on that is about an inch or so above my res so from the floor to the top of my flood table is about 2 1/4 ft so in my veg room with 8 ft cielings thats no problem but in my flowering room i expect the plants to reach a max of 36in from the top of the table/pots so if you do the math that leaves me with about 3ft of space above my plants minus the depth of my hps hood 8 in and the distance i have to keep the light above them 12 in cause im using air cooled hood without air cooling its more like 20-24inaway. so basically my flower room will be maxed out with about 12 in or so of play room for my light, if i didn't air cool it i might be pretty fucked for space.

you put them in rock wool and then clay rocks? How often is the table filled? What did you build your table out of? How many plants should I do under two 1000 watt hps? Thanks for your help.:joint:

i started in rockwool from seed, but germed them with the paper towel method, i fill my table three times a day for 15 min with a 5 min drain time. i used a construction/general use 2ft x 3.5ft tub from lowes/homdepot, check the first link in my signature it has a pic of my set up. for two 1000w hps thats a lot of juice man, for my set up i would need to double my tables/res for a 1000w im only using floro's for veg/cloning and a 400w for flower, and the 1000w are too powerful for seedlings/clones you could do about a 5x5ft tray under each one for flower and as for how many plants just depends on what style of grow your doing, im planning on doing a sog grow, where i only want the top buds off a lot of smaller plants and trimming the rest of the branches so i can pretty much fit about 4 plants per sq ft. but if you do scgrog you only need a fewgood plants to fill a screen. but the sog is more of a continual harvest type deal, you cram as many as you can fit from clone's and as those are about to finish, you clone the next batch so that when the first set finishes the clones are ready to be put into flowering if i do the whole tray i estimate about a oz off each plant and i can fit about 16 comfortably so i hope to get about a pound every 2 months or i could only put 8 plants a month apart so i get about a half pound every month instead of waiting for the whole thing. and so on and so on.
