I thought my book would have said but this is all i could find, sorry. I think that the worms are probably high in nitrogen.

Worm tea - immediate uptake of 1-0-0 and 60 trace minerals. You can put a 1" layer of worm casings on top of your soil if you don't want to make tea; it will percolate down every time you water - for a month.

I guess it's done to add micro organisms in the soil and feed them, which help with the health of the roots, and allow better nutrient intake. To be honest, I'm not so knowledgeable, but have a friend who swears by compost tea... so I tried it out for the first time on my last run, and got MUCH better results.
