i get worms live in the top soil but is this signs they are unhappy or just normal behavior
once i remove the cover and the light goes in they go back in the soil pretty fast

Yeah well sunlight can dry em out so its there instinct to seek dark and damp conditions id say its normal but im no expert i only know a bit about em theres probably plenty of folks on here who could tell you more

i was watching a video on earth boxes and they use a top cover so thought is add one to my bed but if its upsetting the wroms then i might have to remove it. probably not a issue but yeh not anything i have experience with

The cover may just be allowing them access to the top layer of soil .They like fresh areas.
