What Cann said... Also if you are using the pulp from a juicer be aware that worms do not like citrus, this can add too much acidity and it will kill the worms. Now that is not to say you cant add citrus you just have to be aware and not add too much at a time. What will happen is the citrus will start to decay from bacteria and fungus and the worms will eat that as it starts to decompose and the acidity starts to go down.

I agree with Vann, you Def. Should not have mostly all only cardboard and soil. You actually need a soul medium for the worms and for the food. Worms will eat through the soil when there isn't readily available food scraps. They'll do those at a much slower rate but they'll be turning that soil into black gold! Try using soil youve already used for a past grow that way your recycling it. Otherwise yes make sure it isn't set only moist you really don't want to much paper cardboard in it. Just little bit. And Def. If it smells it went anaerobic and I'd highly suggest you remove the worms start over.

uncle jim says in his vid that you can sprinkle some corn meal in the bin to feed them in a pinch (or upon arrival of new worms)


so I harvested 10-15 lbs of castings the other day, i couldn't believe it, in just 4-5 weeks.. i gently sifted through a metal screen colonder and many of my mites/bugs came through. so i took advantage of the desert sun and put the harvested castings in 1 gal ziploc bags and set them in the sun for an afternoon.......no more bugs. i bet you could put a bag in the fridge to kill them too
