Wkarma's Grow

I decided to start a grow journal. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sorry im not going to put any pics, I know how much we all like them. Maybe later. So here is what i got. I ordered 10 mazar seeds from dutch passion. They arrived 10 days later on 4/20 so it was a perfect day. The seeds were very well packed allthough 1 was damaged. Put the seeds in organic soil the same day. On 4/24 four seeds were up and i put the light on. On 4/26 the damaged seed came up but it only had 1 round leaf the other round leaf was dark brown and looked wilted. The damaged sprout has straightend out so it apears to be growing or at least standing up but still only has 1 sad looking round leaf and the stem is white. The other 4 plants are 1 inch tall with two small spiked leafs, the stems are turning dark purple but no real vertical growth yet. How soon should i start seeing more vertical growth( i know its only been three days of light maybe im expecting to much) the other 5 seeds have not sprouted so im keeping them in the dark untill they do (im hoping a few more days) all the seeds were planted in half gallon containers. My closet space is 4x3 with four 8 inch vent holes cut in the door 2 at the top and 2 at the bottom now the doors are open to keep temps down i have a fan mounted on the wall blowing across the lamp to blow some hot air away from the plants and 2 fans at ground level the temp stays about 80 when the lights are on and drops to about 74 when the lights are off. Im using a 1000wt mh.

4/27: Im going to figure out a way to put 2 fans at the top of the doors to blow out hot air and suck new cool air in from the bottom. Also i found a good reciepe for Co2 from the grow faqs on this sight (1 qallon container, 2cups sugar, 2table spoons of yeast. mix it all with 1/2 gallon of water put a pencil size hole in the lid shake it all up and Co2 should start coming out in acouple of days.) Where i live Co2 canisters are hard to buy everbody wants to rent and fill them for you, it is to expensive. I can get dry ice pretty easy. Does anybody know how much to let off each time and how often?

Dude the mazar has a higher ratio of females than most other strains.

Try a 50lb block of dryice, placed in a cooler, with the lid ajar during lights on, works nicely, much better than a home brew for sure. I would do one block a week if it were me.

Heres another recipe for ya, if needed:
Items Required:
* 10lb. white sugar
* 5 gallon clean bucket W/lid
* 4 1/2 gallons of water
* A piece of toast browned and hard
* A table spoon of dry active yeast (for baking bread)

First boil the water, (this will ensure clean water) remove from the heat and add the sugar. Stir until sugar dissolves. Let cool until water is room temperature (if you don't let it cool down it won't work).
After the sugar water has cooled, float the piece of toast on top of the water. Now, empty the tablespoon of yeast over the toast. After a few days, the yeast will take over the toast and start making bubbles (CO2) in the bucket. After a week, the amount of bubbling (CO2) will increase.
Keep the lid airtight on the bucket. CO2 travels up the dispersion tubing, and due to it being heavier than air, falls directly onto your plants. Timing your exhaust, is essential in maintaining an effective level of CO2.

how soon should i start using the dry ice? If i use the bucket method is the tube allways puting out C02 or do i need to close it off somtimes? How long will the bucket last?

I'm not a big fan of those home made brews and never used one.
Additional co2 is always beneficial, as the plant is growing.

Thanks videoman40. Im going to the dry ice factory tomorrow and check out the price.

my thoughts were wow 20.00 for 5lbs i have a large garden at one squat that uses 20lbs of co2 overy ten days this puts the meter at 1500-1660 ppm co2 does anyone have a clue what levels the 50lb block will get ya.

being that i have this 600.00 meter this might be a suitable test. the one problem is i dont want to disrupt my growing cycles with lower co2
i guess i could do it for a few days though

I think i read some where that dry ice was 70% nitrogen so i think it will do the plants some good. This is my first grow so i think i will use it as a test.
I think maybe a good way to put it out may be to put it in a cooler tape the lid shut, turn it on its end and attach a hose to the drain plug then run the hose into the closet. I might be wrong but in a cooler im pretty sure it melts about 2lb every 24 hour. So maybe a 40lb block every 10 days.

Dryice is frozen carbon dioxide.
As a general rule, Dry Ice will sublimate at a rate of five to ten pounds every 24 hours in a typical ice chest. This sublimation continues from the time of purchase, therefore, pick up Dry Ice as close to the time needed as possible. Bring an ice chest or some other insulated container to hold the Dry Ice and slow the sublimation rate.

One pound of dry ice will produce 8.7 cubic feet of gaseous CO2. You’ll need to provide about .04 cubic feet of CO2 to the garden per day for every cubic foot of grow space. That means that a 1 pound block of dry ice will provide one days coverage for a 217 cubic foot garden, which is slightly larger than a 5’ x 5’ x 8’ area. The trick is to leave the cooler open just enough to let the dry ice sublimate at the rate you want.

in my gardens this gas is introduced from the ceiling. since its heavier than air it drops onto the plants. this causes the fan leaves to almost stand up.

you are saying that this block evaporates gas at a level from the floor or do you blow it around, i have 1090 cubic foot room. i nned to make sure there is not a cloud at the floor as i am 17 inches off the floor of the room

I tried to get C02 today but it's dam near impossible here. If you want it for your home you can only get small canisters wich are not nearly big enough. In order to gat a large size tank you need to sign a contract with a distributer, rent the tank monthly and get at least 3 refills. This is mostly set up for clubs and restraunts. So i checked out a dry ice shop it costs about $3.50 for 2.2lbs. My plan now is to buy about 40lbs every two weeks, and use that to supliment the do it youself bucket system Videoman 40 described earlier in this thread. My questions now are if dry ice melts at about 5 lbs a day and i put 40 lbs in a cooler with a pencil size hole in the top and run a hose to the top of my closet would this last 8 days or would it just all melt in one day? Also how long will the 5 gallon bucket system last? The reason im going to use both is im not sure how much space the bucket system will cover and how much C02 it actually puts out so i thought using dry ice also would help the C02 level. I know the C02 tank is best but i cant get it so im thinking Dry Ice and homade bucket system is better than nothing.

And i'll jump on the band wagon as well thanks for your help Videoman40. You Rock

Interesting info....I like the sound of dry ice method....but have a few questions....what are the dangers??....Is periodic introduction OK, say once per week.....should it be added during veg/flower or both....can you overdose your plants or add to much??

Id say probably the best way is to have dry ice is everyday. But evan once per week would be better than not at all. The only problems with dry ice are that you can not keep it most freezers run at about 20 degrees and dry ice melts at -30 so it will still melt evan in a freezer i was also told it will damage the freezer but im not sure why. The only other dangers are dry ice puts out C02 gas so it has to be stored in a vented container or the container WILL EXPLODE, and you should handle with gloves or you can get burned.

Great...I was thinking I would pick some up each week when I go to town for grocerys...and give my ladies a special weekly treat.....

ummm explode from pressure? co2 is non flamable

Yes. Explode from pressure? co2 is non flamable.Thats why you need a vented container. When we were kids we use to put dry ice in a plastic milk jug screw the lid on tight and watch the jug blow up like a beach ball and when it could not stretch anymore it would explode.

The interesting thing about the bucket co2 system Videoman40 described earlier in this thread is if you take the toast out and add some fruit you will have some homemade wine in a month.

Its day 7 and there is one more sprout up. The damaged seed that sprouted is also looking better its standing tall it just doesent have the 2 round leaves it started with 2 spiked leaves. So ive got 6 out of ten of the mazar babys up up hopefully the other 4 will come up. The room temp is perfect at 80 degrees, the heat from the light is no longer a issue with 2 fans on the hood it blows all the heat away. I will mount two vent fans on the door in a few days this will insure fresh air is sucked in and stale air is pushed out. Right now the closet doors are still open. Today i started the co2 Bucket so it should be good in about three days. I will suppliment the bucket from time to time with dry ice.

Peace
