Window gardening in late summer

Hello mellow maple heads ,

Now is the time I usually keep some plants by my large south and south west windows. Last year I put a very small clone there and let it finish. This year, I’m thinking of putting a big fat plant there and seeing what it’s like as a flowering houseplant.

Anyone ever tried this? I’m kind of worried about it stressing/herming because of living room lights etc. That being said, I did finish a plant naturally last fall...no seeds.

I would hate to pollinate my whole space, but excited about another window plant to join my other tropical plants.

Salutations JayBio420,

Depending on height of your windows and what floor that is located relative to any potential snooper(s) it may be OKay to try quick autofems grown in a 2 gallons self-watering pot as that can be expected to help limit their size. So, if it's a large window then i'd say a trio would fit in with assistance from a back-reflector to compensate, tough i think mid-August really sounds kind of late (somewhat too late to beneft from an air conditioner anyway). I mean, such prospect might have seemed more realistic a month ago...

Nonetheless it sure teaches a few durable lessons IMO, while the scent should remain manageable, e.g. with access to an external dryer outlet if distance to the sidewalk is sufficient, for example.

That idea crossed my mind, hence i did test it with a duo at 1st.

M'yeah, this is one of those instances where tradeoffs on performance still sound better than no harvest at all. Take lots of pictures to replace what's potentially lost with a legacy that will evoke sweet memories, eventually...

...would hate to pollinate my whole space...
My hypothesis is that negative pressure in that room might help to contain accidental pollination long enough to detect male flowers, possibly on the basis of snapshots captured during your photo sessions...

Then in such case it may be about time to find a "Sun Calculator" and start checking what this involves in terms of lighting periods.

Lets admit i vaguely recall considering a mobile cultivation space on wheels simply to benefit from natural light nearly all day long, considering my appartment was located on a last/3rd floor once and nobody could see behind properly dressed windows generously distributed on 3 sides... Yet i also remember wanting more light and that's when i started to think of wheels + some more bells & whistles.

Even if performance proves being compromized it's still trusty "bio" if you're lucky enough to never require pesticides, knowing that a weaker plant is more at risk... That's one good reason why the plants should have been started under blueish light to get short stalks with low cotyledons promoting a fairly strong vegetation phase, because once displaced in front of windows this fall it shall become difficult to complement sunlight with artificial light, especially with constant/periodic cycles noticeable from outside at dusk.

Anyway The Borg interfered with my plans by assimilating all indoor plants and now it's even more criminalized than ever in my province. E.G. enjoy your luck before Andrew Scheer manages to extend the ban nationally!...

:o

Good day, have fun!! :peace:
