Hello community! I have some plants in the early stage of the Vegetative cycle, about 6 weeks from sprouting. I am only having trouble with one plant and one more may be showing early signs of something else.
A little about what my set up is like. I am working with soil (FFOF). I started from seed, variations from years of careful collecting and one variety pack of seeds from a dispensary. I am growing in a closet. This closet is probably better suited as a nursery for clones and seedlings, but necessity is the mother of invention. I am currently in 1 Gallon pots. I am using Ph balanced water from the tap 6.0-6.5. I water a little at a time more often. Say: I water on Monday (1 Qt per plant), I water again Wednesday (1Qt/Plant), and fertilize Sunday("/"). For fertilizer I am using the high end of the "General feeding" of Fox Farm-Grow BIG (3tsp/Gal.) I am also considering adding in or starting an alternating regimen of FF's Big Bloom, which would provide an easy transition to these nutes when going into flower and the added vegetative benefit of slightly more Potassium(Suggestions??). My Temps are 76-78'F Day, 69-72'F Night. Humidity relatively low 30%-40%.
I have 1(one): 18" Fluorescent Grow light (awl-mart): 1(one): 12" Fluorescent kitchen light (warm white)(Target), 1(one): Compact Fluorescent (60W), 1(one): Black light (60W), 1(one) Box fan (square, non-moving; I know I "should" have an oscillating fan but again working in a closet with limited floor space and limited money for resources. I'm pretty sure my problems are coming from this fan and I've recently covered the center section of the protective grill, the part of the fan that was really pounding the plants.) I have the 2 tube fluorescent lights set on a timer for 18/6 and I use the 2 60w lights to simulate higher light and UV levels in the afternoon they are running about 7 hours/day. There is about 1/2" to 3/4" of sand in the top of the pots (in hopes of staving off fungus gnats, which have just appeared in the last 4-5 days.). When I transplanted into the 1 gal. pots I added 1Tb of Blood Meal to each pot to increase Nitrogen. I want to remind readers this is just starting veg, I have a totally different, more legit set-up for flower. So please don't hate! lol.
Both problem plants are effected on old growth on the first sets of true leaves. The "Burn" doesn't look like any of the photos on the "Plant Abuse Chart", could be Manganese deficiency, possibly Potassium; BUT, its not affecting new growth and its not in flower! The leaves are yellowing in an un-uniform pattern, kind of like Camo. Necrotizing to brown spots. The tips of the leaves droop down and brown- surpassing yellowing all together. The most affected plant looks like a Sativa, with thin finger-y leaves. Although about 3 weeks ago noticed some purple striping in the main stalk, just between 2 nodes.?(phosphorus)??? All of the 4 plants that I am growing are showing some ruffling upward on the razor edges, any ideas on this? I've heard that ruffling is either due to heat or low humidity. I'm trying to gently keep the humidity a little higher with a small open container with sand and water inside it.
This is my first grow and I might be over reacting to a small issue but I want to be an effective and attentive daddy to these girls! Anyways, thanks for reading and I hope I have been thorough enough and provided enough information. Hope to get some good suggestions and maybe this will answer someone else's questions too! Peace!
