Will this work?

Hi, I have a space:
3 foot depth
3 foot tall
2 food wide
It's a small cupboard underneath my bed at the back so it is very out of the way. I have put a cupboard door on it and used silicone to seal all the edges. My plan is to put plastic sheeting all on the inside and line the inside with foil and grow just 1 small plant in there. This is my first time growing and I just have a few questions I would like answering. First of all is the ventillation, Im unsure if I make a carbon filter and put it in place then use a pc fan to pull air through it and then let the other end go into my room, although im not sure if it will hide the smell completely and end up putting the distinctive smell into my room. I'm on a tight budget that's why I'm trying to make my ventillation system rather than buy it. So what I guess I'm trying to say is shall I put it straight out into my room ( it would be easier if it doesn't smell) or Will I have to drill through my bed and put it out of the window?

I'm planning on using just 1 30W CFL energy saving bulb, will this be enough power for just one plant?
I'm also planning on using soil to grow the plant in, and using Ionic soil grow nutrients, would this be ok?

Thankyou, I'm gonna try my best to hopefully make it a good little grow room. And yeah, that's what I was thinking up there but that leads directly out into my room and I wasn't sure the carbon filter would be enough to hide the smell in my room. Otherwise I'd have to drill into the wood just above the plug socket to have a pipe going out the window

Hi Ollie, sorry I can't be much help on the D.I.Y. Carbon Filter..though I think you will found the Info on R.I.U. for this.. Instead of using Foil/Silver you could always paint with Matt white paint, does a great job on Reflecting Light. also try and aim for a little more Lumens..I think most(could be wrong) 30W CFL kick out around 2000L and really You want about 5000L..You probably State side? in the UK a 30w CFL set you back about £3-4 but I've seen some Bargain 26W CFL packs from idk local Wall mart posted up on here...can't remember what thread, but they was cheap for pack of 10 or something along those Lines..

What Strain are You thinking of going with?

Hi, thanks for your help and I'll have a look for the DIY carbon filter thread. I'm in the UK, and so you think I'll need maybe 2 or 3 bulbs? The strain im looking at is this:

It seems to not grow very high and have a high yeild so I thought I'd give it a try. As I'm only a beginner then the clue in in the name of the seed and hopefully it's as easy as it describes. I have some white plastic coated fabric, would that work just as well If I covered the walls in that? Many thanks

Just had a quick look at Link and does sound like a Good One to Start with, I've not done before..but from reading the blurb/spiel..sounds Ok..I have just started a Dutch Passion Blackberry Kush(Auto) was gift to me by a friend and judging from their last Grow Journal/Diary is a Great Smoke and pretty Good yield...IF you want for an Auto(and I'm not saying what you should or shouldn't do) but You won't have to Worry about 12/12 for Flowering...just plant,grow,harvest,smoke(after drying and curing of course) here's a Link to the BB Kush(Auto) if you want to have a Look..let us know IF you find the Info on D.I.Y. Filters..if not will upload some Info for you.

I have researched the carbon filter exhaust system and Im thinking that I'll get a 2" and 4"(half the size of the 2") pvc pipe then drill holes almost like a net completely over the 4" pipe and partially over the 2" pipe then cover them both with some tights or suspenders as a breatheable material, then I'll insert the 2" into the 4" and put activated carbon inbetween them both then seal the end and step with duct tape. I'll then put a pc fan on the other end of the 2" pipe so it sucks air through the filter and then out into either my room or out the window, depending on if it hides the smell enough.
After looking into what you said about me not having enough lumens, I started to look more into bulbs and I'm not sure how to get the most out of my plant using cfl bulbs. The websites I've been looking at say the more lumens the better although I don't want to over cook it.. I was going to use this bulb for one plant:

hi Ollie, Yeah that's a Good Choice of Strain, in-fact I think my mate on Brit site is Growing this out right now(I will check and let you know) With the Bulbs You Won't Cook the Plant with CFL as long as you have some Air Movement and Intake and Exhaust sorted, CFL do give off a little Heat but not much...Check out FleaBay and try and get straight not spiral..personal choice but I just think they are better..like this 85W( = 5100L(£8.99 Free PnP) Item No. 261803252495 and hang the bulb Horizontally for better spread(tips are dead spots) You can Paint or Cover the Walls, I just find paint is easier to work with..

I think them straight CFl bulbs look a lot better and I'm sure they'll make it a better grow. I haven't really looked at them bulbs but I think that they will be the ones I get. I'm currently covering the walls now and will post a picture when it's done. Thankyou very much for all your help

Hiya Ollie, The above bulb would be more than enough(but it's a Mh/Hps Bulb, So you would need a Ballast(Power Supply/Brick)..about £50 for 400W Magnetic Ballast, closer to a £100 for Digital Ballast) IF you had the funds Imho a 400W or 600W Digital dimmable Ballast is the way to go, You can have at lower setting for Veg and crank it up to full power for Flowering.. but if money is tight then CFL are Cheap, IF anyone says you are wasting time with CFL, Low yield this is not true, Setup properly You can Yield 1oz per Plant(dried) if not slightly more..

With UK you want BC22 sometimes just stated as B22 this will fit standard UK light sockets..

I appreciate your help very much.
First of all, it looks like I won't be able to use that mh/hps bulb because I don't think I'll have enough cash to buy the pack for it.
Im either gonna use:

Which one would you think would work better?

I also want to choose the right strain, because I'm going to use a DIY carbon filter then it may not work as well as a shop brought carbon filter, and the exhaust is going to be pointing out into my room, therefore if the DIY carbon filter doesn't hide the smell completey, it's going to be noticeable. This is why I want to find a low odor but high yeild strain that is a reasonably short plant, if you could reccommend a low odor plant?
