what you are looking for is active carbon, IMO the 50-100$ used on a prober one is money well spend, but you can also buy the active carbon in 10kg buckets if you really want to make a DIY one, you can also find the carbon in the replacement filters for cooking ventilations
12$ for a two pack at my local "Walmart" full of active carbon

yeah for the price of the filter you linked you can hit up the home depot and a pet store and get the supplies to make one that will work better and can make it a custom size....

Go to the Hardware store, or Walmart, and get a furnace filter. Arm and Hammer and some of the other MFG's make activated Charcoal 'odor eliminating' Furnace filters for homes with pets & smokers...
Remove the cardboard & wire and flatten it out--- cut it to size and for about $10-12 you have a years worth of filters you can change every month!

that would work good for the screens in the video i posted, but he is going to want to push that air through more than just a thin filter.
a quality filter has activated carbon in it, not just a carbin filter pad. i have tried making a DIY filter using them and it did little to no good.
