Will these lights be ok?

Hi I picked up 2 40/200w softwhite cfls at lowes, and was wondering if these would be good enough to start 6 seedlings on for a week or two while i get up the funds for a 400w HPS/MH lamp?

"Soft" light is not ideal at all. You want "cool" or full spectrum for vegging. your plants will stretch under soft light. NO good. They will form nice tight nodes under a "cool" blue CFL. Thats what you really want.

6500K for cool-

even a few of the 23 watter will do. if you get em close enough. i think i 6 for 6 or 7 small plants now in a tight area. doing really good.

Well while I was at wal-mart looking for flood lights I picked up 2 42w GE CFLs got 2 dual socket flood lights put a 40w and a 42w in each light. I didnt see on the box if the new ones I bought were soft or not but after looking around online it looks like they are. Oh well im not going to spend more $ on CFLs, just put my 3 germed afghan seeds into soil and under the lights so they will just have to stretch for a week or so until the 400w MH shows up.

i picked up 6 26w/100w bulbs to start 6 seedlings. only 5 came too, but they seemed to love it. i made my own hood for them, seemed to work really well. should check it out for added ideas.

i would recommend not putting more $$ into CFL's. except if you can use them at home, as they then will save you $$. the plants will make it, just fine and dandy until then.. in fact they will love you.
