you can use televisions as grow lights, depending on what you are watching, something like a Bambi dvd on loop would probably give you the best lumen output.
maybe put seedlings in front of something like an American werewolf in London or something else a bit gloomy, you wont want to over do it
UOENO: First, plants are NOT people. Aside from us giving them the conditions in which to thrive, they really want us to leave them alone. Being a 'helicopter parent' can be at the root of about a ZILLION issues.
Like TheOrganic says: Dark period has to be DARK. As in pitch-black dark dark dark. The topic of natural celestial light at night came up on a thread a while ago (this is the thing that makes people think a bit of light at night is OK for the plants, the fact we have stars and a moon), many hypothesis were put forward, but in the end all agreed on this one point, that light in the dark period during an indoor grow IS indeed NOT GOOD.
In veg you can probably get away with it, as long as it is not sporadic as sporadic light is guaranteed to cause herms even on reg seed females. In flower, one week of this, and you WILL HAVE BALLS.
While it is true that plants are not people, they do respond to all kinds of stimuli, IMO of course. There have been numerous studies on playing music to plants. Masaru Emoto has done a lot of study on the effects of emotions on water. So watering with happy water might give them better bud. All of this is easy enough to dismiss scientifically, but science can only take us so far. I say to watch uplifting movies if you want some uplifting bud. Watch only superhero movies if you want bud that will turn you into spiderman lol...
depends on what your watching. Cops, CSI, and Border Security will probably stress them out, but Weeds, Breaking Bad or South Park will probably be fine.
seriously though don't do it light at night will cause stress.
I make my plants square off and fight each other. Since they are not mobile, I just kind of mush them together and they fight.
The winner gets some happy water and the loser gets a stern talking to and some unhappy water.
Then we all go out for a nice dinner at the Olive Garden, my plants can't get enough bread sticks.
