Will roots grow upwards if they are submerged in soil?

hi,

basically i have just started some seedlings off. they are currently in small pots awaiting a transplant into larger ones.

however, they have become slightly stretched, and i need to save all the height i can.

my question is this:

when i transplant them, can i bury the plant say, half way up the stem?

by doing this will the roots grow upwards and use the new soil, or will they remain in the bottom half of the pot?

thanks, i hope you understand my question.

:peace:

your gonna get multiple opinions on this one. Some have no issue with this me personally I dont like to do it much. I will burry extra 2 inches but not much more as I find it can cause stem rot if your no carefull and keep it to moist. You can scrap it with a blade a little add rooting gel then burry it and get more roots but its a pain

the longer stalk can be good or bad. If its weak may make it easier to snap if its strong you will get better air flow underneath which is what lollipopping does for a plant
