Will branches break?

Total newbie question.

As my flowers turn into heavier buds will I need to support the branches?

Depends on how far they lean over you might want to support them,you'll know when it starts to happen if your going to have to support them

Some may need support. Depends on strain, growing conditions, health, etc. Sometimes I don't have to add support at all, and sometimes just the few largest buds on a plant. Get yourself some bamboo stakes and plant tape, then you're ready for it.

Number one reason I just use tomato cages anymore.

Larger branches usually are strong enough so that actual breakage is rare. However, there are a lot of ways a plant can grow that doesn't fit with what you want. I'm talking about side branches that take up a lot of space while producing little. You can use a tomato cage for plants that are as wide as they are tall. My favorite method of taming these wayward branches is to use pipecleaners to pull the branches closer to the main stem and therefor take up less space.

I have had one of my plants snap in half so yes it is possible. like others have said, get somthing for support ahead of time.

I've never had a branch break. Usually the thicker branches start leaning over about 2 weeks before harvest, and I have to tie them up so they don't touch the floor.

If you didn't tie them up they might just break . You take care of it though so you don't have to experience that.

You can use narrow dowels as support ( plant ties or pipe cleaners ) or fore mentioned Tomato cages.

Your best bet is to trellis. I have seen plants snap right in half. Ive seen many just have a branch break off but usually its at least a half oz thats lost. A trellis net will cost you ten bucks and a half is worth more than a half right? The plant is much more prone to break when its dry. Every time i find broken branches its right before i have to water.

Wow, there are some interesting thoughts in here. First off, don't try to pin them closer to the plant. That is only going to make the plant retain excessive amounts of humidity under it's canopy. That is a great idea if you like bud-rot, but not so good if you want to grow quality ganja. Instead, you can buy simple bamboo stakes or any other kind of stakes from Home Depot (or any garden center) and just support them. Try to stake them out away from the center of the plant. All of your buds will be bigger and your final yield will be higher for doing it. Velcro dispensers or just regular old garden tie is good too, just don't tighten them too much and restrict the capillaries. Speaking of which, if your branches are leaning too much, this will restrict the ability to move water.
