Why you should vote for Bernie Sanders

In a time when the wealthiest people in the nation have more wealth than the bottom 90 percent combined, when they hold more influence than those in office, and when the voice of the people has virtually no effect on the policies being put into place, it is entirely evident that we need a major change in the ways we think and do things. We need a paradigm shift in not only our government, but in our culture and society as a whole. I believe that Senator and 2016 presidential candidate Bernie Sanders is that change.

Sanders said at a budget committee meeting April 20, 2014, “When you get down to basics and you talk about morality, it seems to me that the least that we can do as a nation – a nation which has more income and wealth inequality than any other major country on Earth, a nation in which the wealthiest people are becoming phenomenally richer while we have over 40 million people living in poverty – the very least that we could say is that nobody in America goes hungry. That, I would hope, would be the least that we could say in a civilized democratic society.”

Senator Sanders’ phenomenally discerning and trenchant thoughts here are indicative of the greatest issue facing the United States – that is that we are, as a society, still incapable of aiding those in need. Despite our incredible knowledge and advancements, we still lack the moral capacity to enrich the lives of every single person in this country.

It is necessary that we step back from everything and look at the state of our country with unbiased and open eyes. It is time for us to realize that we are the movers, and that those in power seek only to retain their positions, not to alter the course of history for the better. We must take action to change the self-destructive path we’re on and I believe that Bernie Sanders is the right candidate to help us move towards a more sustainable future.

A vote for Bernie Sanders is a vote for a new America, where college is affordable and available to all, where economic struggle is a thing of the past, where big business and corporations do not control our politics and policies, where women receive the same pay as men and where consistent and reasoned principles drive the nation.

As Albert Einstein once said, “We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”

what do you think, nitro? can you live with this?

You've 4 threads on the first page about the same guy...

Can you say Ron Paul levels of superstardom?

I bet if Bernie said "let's audit the Fed" then you'd ask "Why hasn't anyone thought of that before"?

he'll do you one better..he wants you to be able to smoke any marijuana strain of your choosing while walking down the street and not get jail time for it.:weed:

:peace:

The WoD is big biz. I'll wait to hear his replacement business model for those billions. He's got no plan to reschedule MJ.

His deal is about growing government not limiting it's size. If he ended the WoD, which rescheduling of MJ would signal, he'd have to find replacement positions for a lot of federal/state employees and all those peripheral businesses.

Don't hold your breath; MJ isn't getting rescheduled by anybody anytime soon.

But what the heck, I'll give him a vote for a new trackhoe.

hillary says can't be done?..the right says? and bernie says?:

"Let me just say this," Sanders began in response to a question about his position on the war on drugs during a Reddit "Ask Me Anything" style interview. "The state of Vermont voted to decriminalize the possession of small amounts of marijuana and I support that. I have supported the use of medical marijuana. And when I was mayor of Burlington, in a city with a large population, I can tell you very few people were arrested for smoking marijuana. Our police had more important things to do."

With regard to full marijuana legalization, Sanders said he will look to Colorado, where recreational marijuana is legal, to see the effects of such a policy change. Colorado was the first state to legalize the drug for recreational purposes. It's now fully legal in four states and in Washington, D.C., though sales remain banned in the District.

"Colorado has led the effort toward legalizing marijuana and I'm going to watch very closely to see the pluses and minuses of what they have done," Sanders wrote on Reddit. "I will have more to say about this issue within the coming months."

Sanders, who announced in April that he will run for president in 2016, has acknowledged using marijuana when he was younger. The senator has been a vocal critic of the decades-old war on drugs, telling Time magazine in 2014 that he had "real concerns" about U.S. drug policy.

"We have been engaged in [the war on drugs] for decades now with a huge cost and the destruction of a whole lot of lives of people who were never involved in any violent activities," he told Time.

Sanders' home state is one of 23 that have already legalized marijuana for medical purposes. It's also one of 19 that have decriminalized the possession of small amounts of marijuana for personal use. In addition, Vermont is one of a handful of states currently exploring legislation that would legalize recreational marijuana. At least 10 states, including Vermont, are expected to consider these or similar legalization measures by 2016.

A string of recent polls have shown that a majority of Americans support the legalization of marijuana. Yet the federal government continues to ban the plant, classifying it as one of the "most dangerous" drugs alongside heroin and LSD.

"It's really exciting to have Sen. Sanders express unequivocal support for decriminalization and medical marijuana," said Tom Angell, chairman of the drug policy reform group Marijuana Majority, to The Huffington Post. "And reading between the lines, it seems to me like he's getting ready to endorse full legalization soon. A growing majority of voters supports marijuana reform, and more candidates are starting to recognize that it makes good political sense to court the cannabis constituency instead of criminalize us."bongsmilie:blsmoke::bigjoint::weed::leaf:
