why my last grow FAILED, help with new grow setup.

hi all i was using a 250watt hps in a sea of green type grow, 12on 12 of from flower, first real grow.

now i believe the grow failed because of heat/ventalation issues, i was growin in my closet(sliding door type closet) frinkin hps is HOT, and i live in hawaii. i was growing in soil(foxfarm and foxfarm nutes) nute brun issues. my plants came out skinny, loose, and overall , weak sauce.

my electricity bill was HIGH AS HELL! now my elec. bill is small i have a computer 2 tvs and 2 dvd players, no central air, just fans, and my bill doubled, my landlord was trippin.

so before i buy all kinds of stuff i dont need let me tell u what i plan on getting.
2 250 watt envirogrow cfl reds,
1 250 watt envirogrow cfl blues,(reflectors)
and a aerogarden type rubbermaid hyrdo system.

now is heat going to be a issue with the cfl's?

how much damage would it do to my electricity bill?

how effective will the cfls be, and how much space can that cover? ive seen some pics with cfl envirogrows and they look pretty nice.
any help would be awesome.

um. well since you were using 1 250 watt bulb before. and now your using 2 250 watt bulbs, you can expect your electricity bill to go even higher obviously

LOL yeah 250 watts is 250 watts no matter how you try to spin it. HPS is 40% more efficient than CFL, IE. it puts out LESS Heat per lumen than CFL does.
So now your gonna use 3x250 watt bulbs. Well if 1 250 watt Bulb ( Which would cost me about $8/month to run 12/12) is doubling your bill then 3 bulbs should just about quadruple it. I am sure the landlord will be happy that you upped the bill even more significantly after his first heart attack.

So what will you get? more heat, less light per 250 Watts used, and a whole lot more money. welcome to growing pot 101.
