Why is my PH and PPM raising slowly everyday?

I have a Waterfarm Hydro set up and ive recently had some nute burn so im flushing the system with clean water.
Originally my res was at 6.0PH and around 80PPM. But i went and checked today and it is 7.0PH and almost 200PPM. why are they both rising when im just trying to flush my plant from the nute burn??

and will adding fresh water dilute the water and make the PPM go down?
and will adding "PH DOWN" bump up the PPM?

why is this happening? thanks!!!

This is most likely completely normal. Plant rhizosphere exudes sugars and carbohydrates that will slowly but consistently raise the nutrient pH a little. I always stick to dilution with fresh water, never adding pH up. Usually I have already added pH down, so best to not mix the two together. Precipitates and pH/ppm swinging through the solution can occur. And when you flush, you flush with water until nothing comes out. 0ppm/EC Also, plants will typically take in more water than they will nutrients. This is why you must top off daily, or at least to the same level each time you go to feed. As the plant takes in water and nutrients, it takes in more water than nutrients leaving you with a more concentrated mix each feeding. Dilute with water each day and your pH and ppm swings will be less.

also some nutes will swing ph more than others ....fox farms line and GH 3 part come to mind....

  • thanks so much for the response!

a buddy told me that since i have been bombing it with so many nutes that its just utilizing the nutes already in the roots/plant and spitting out the excess into the res, which in turn makes my ppm rise. which makes sense to me, but your saying i should keep flushing it with fresh water(no nutes) until my PPM is 0? i feel like it will never get to 0 because i use drinking water with a PPM of around 70-80 as "clean water"

i thought that ive been flushing for long enough now, i was going to start up a super weak nutrient solution tomorrow because i thought it might be ready.
should i hold off on the nutes for even longer and wait till the twisting stops? or should i start up a super weak solution?

Oh shit yea until it drops to around what you put in. 0 will never be achievable for you if you use 80ppm already. Pull back on the nutes. 1/8th-1/4 and build them up slowly. You'll do great if you just work her slow.

Simple, you have some type of lights on for 12+ hours= Evaporation.Drip system will speed up evaporation. As you lose water your PPM will rise. Yourplants will put waste into the water that will raise your PH.

How big are the plants? I noticed that my PH rises daily until the plants get a certain size then everything stabilizes when they get big enough to really eat

Only about 10 inches, the roots are just barely coming out of the bottom of the bucket and dropping into the water. BARELY though, like im talking, a couple strands of skinny white roots.
Hopefully they take off soon...
