Why Get a Card?

The limits are lower with a MMJ card than without. Aside from using in other states, why would you get a MMJ card?

This is in the Alaska forum. We don't go to jail for personal grows and for having pot in the house.

false sense of security mostly....why do you ask?
it's the same reason so many people are concerned over the movements of small bits of paper called promissory notes, when the bits of paper involved could care less...

I would have thought it was obvious...

I was robbed. Some kids climbed into a fourth story window and took my stash and most all of my plants.

I called the cops. They politely showed up and greeted me and then proceeded to document every item that was missing, including details of each plant, the color of the pots they were in, quantity of pot stolen... They took pictures and fingerprinted, discreetly asked the neighbors if they had seen anything and then affirmed me that they would get me back my medicine if they found the brats.

I just with I had renters insurance - with a police report (which documented the value of that was stolen) I could have been handsomely reimbursed.

Pretty good reason to have a card in my opinion.

/e I didn't see that this was in the Alaska forum

I put this in the Alaska forum because our laws are considerably different. We are allowed 24 plants per household. With the MMJ card we are only allowed 6.

I was hoping for some posts from folks who understand our laws, not some opinion based on watching Tv.

Thanks anyway guys.

What insurance company is going to honor a claim for stolen marijuana, considering it's a Federal offense? A man in Colorado with a medical card filed for stolen plants and he was paid the maximum of $500 per plant, under an ornamental bushes heading. I'm surprised though, as most will deny coverage; claiming you are breaking federal laws. You may have to take them to court. In the case of the Colorado man, he was chronically ill, not a California carrier with allergies.

That's the law. The only reason I can see to get the mmj card is for transportation. It's a screwy law. 24 plants are covered under by an Alaska Supreme Court case as Right to Privacy. You can grow 24 plants but you can't possess over 1/4 lb. You can't be in possession outside of your home without risking a $50 citation. Over a 1/4 lb is a felony for some reason. Keep it under a qp and you are fine.

Frankly, it isn't that easy to get a MMJ card in AK. I don't know any doctors that do, though I'm sure there are a few. Because of the very robust privacy laws in the state, the incentive isn't there unless dispensaries are allowed.

Yes but in Alaska you cant leave your home with it. If you leave your home with any amount of marijuana you are going to jail! So dont let him fool you, the reason to get your card would be to carry it outside the home.

They always just take mine and give me the option to go to jail n prove I am aloud to have it or just let them have it but it's always been a small amount

This is utter bullshit. While illegal to carry openly, law enforcement's maximum penalty is a citation similar to a speeding ticket. It's $50 for less than an oz and a little bit more if you have an oz to 4 oz. Over 4 oz will have you carted off to jail.

Ok well there you go thats why you need your card then. I seen on cops in Alaska. The one cop said they can have it in the home but once they leave there home with it, then it becomes our problem he said. Maybe thats just how he feels about it but thats what the man said. And this cop also let the guy go he had a 1/4 on him.

JOIN THE A.M.M.A.!!!

They are educators aiming to raise awareness and help patients seeking supplies. There idea is that through awareness of the gray areas and immaculate conception laws that you are arguing, it will become obvious that the laws are unjust and need reform. That however is a tall task when according to their latest study, nearly 70% of Alaskans are unaware of their own medical marijuana laws. Join the group, raise awareness, make a change.

I have!
