Why does it have to be coco? The first time I grew was in 1989. The first two runs were Bag seed. Beautiful but weak. 3rd run Skunk no1. blew up my house enough that during the last two weeks of flower, I could smell it from my 2x4 closet upstairs, opening the door of my truck after work! No more again. The finest time I ever had with a plant ; )
Couldn't stop touching my colas during the last four weeks and smelling my finger.

My mix than was a mix suggested by Mel Frank, from the Deluxes Marijuana growers guide my Mel and Ed Rosenthal. 50% Vermiculite X 50% Perlite. Half water, half air. one supplies silica, mag, high cation exchange rate to hold nutrients for more than a day ; )
Why are people not experimenting with DTW media?
I think my mix is scientifically more balanced. I reserve! the right to be wrong.

What is your question, Why does it have to be coco?
Because coco is a form of Hydroponics and grow very nice plants. Not saying you cannot grow nice plants in soil, but I started in soil and the only way I will go back is when I can grow outdoors with supersoil.
My yields with soil was in the ounces, my grows in coco is in the pounds. Cleaner growing conditions, coco is more forgiving but also a more predictable grow. My buds are tight and the fragrance is wonderful.
I am not knocking soil grows but I do love my Coco.
Current coco/perlite 70/30 grow.
Full SCrog Day 45 of flower.

Your method with verm/perlite will still work. I went from soil to coco with perlite and i will never look back.

Many ways to grow, find your groove and grow what suits you.

I will transition to PPK growing in the fall. Icmag.. search for Something wicked this way comes

It is a hybrid approach with drippers on top and sub irrigation in bottom (as insurance in case of pump failure).PPK_330162329122617.JPG

Vermiculite x Perlite. 1. to 1. less water management on a daily basis. PH down, and a lite Cal/mag only + basic Adv, nutrients. No burnt tips, that would be a first ; )

Could I possibly ask about your growing conditions? Nutrients. And strength of said nutrient? Please and thank you
