Why Do People Name Their Weed?

I mean I've been growing and propagating my own seeds since 2003; all I know is Indica, Sativa, Hybrid, Ruderlis.. People please stop with all these names!!!:leaf:

its the bag appeal mate, give it a good name and they are half way there, total bollocks in my opinion, i agree with you.

bag appeal is bag appeal, not the name its given. unless you dont know what you are doing when it comes to smoking, buying, etc.
indica 1, indica 2, sativa 3, gets kind of boring.

sure for personal, it might be find, but most seeds are hitting a very large market, and im sure as hell not going to buy indica 1, or indica 2.
but thats not saying a name will earn my purchase. my purchases are decided by its effects, its looks, its smells.

names are also good for keeping track of which plant is which. as each plant has a different effect. even if it is a slight difference.

if you breed your own, how does it effect you?

I agree with the fella above. With names it's better and easier to keep track of the lines and to know what your getting.

Um...How about for indentification?? This is like asking why people label different kinds of roses with different kinds of names...Because the flowers have different characteristics!!! And please don't even go there, with the whole "weed is weed" argument. Cannabinoids vary throughout every strain, Different cannabinoids make for different effects. Can the "name game" get ridiculous?? OF course, and it can be misused and fabricated. But in general, it does a lot of good for the industry.

I've never bought and asked what it was, except for "Good", but if not for all the names, the breeders would have no way of differentiating the strains when they develop a new one to have a certain trait.
However, I agree with you, when a thread is started with the question 'my plant smells like bubble gum, can I call it bubblicious?

Weed is Weed

you need names for like northern lights, skunk#1, afghan etc but mostly just for IBL's and landraces. but some breeders give crazy names for their hybrids that has nothing to do with the origin of the cross. but you got to have names for all the different weed like white widow you can't just call that a hybrid same with purple strains their all different. they even have a name for every vegtable variety out there.

Weed is Weed

No it is not  People like some weed, not others, so if they have names then they know what they are planting and as such that it is the one they enjoy more be it in terms of taste or high. What a stupid statement. (although i know you were probably just saying it in jest)

I am not defending some of the idiotic names out there, which are purely for marketing, but not to have a manner of identifying the different weed around, that is just silly.

In a different context, it is like saying wine is just wine and should be sold as nothing more than red or white. Or red apples and green apples.

Threads don't come much stupider than this one.

like tip says it mainly advertising/marketing.......think of horse racing....stupid fuckin names that rarely have anything to do with bloodlines.....i'll bet on desert orchid before i'll bet on horse number 3.

Well Vilify you are right in saying to distinguish strains on the market; for myself my strains have way different effects. I have a wide spectrum from energetic, laugh until your stomach hurts, bud that keeps you in the middle(social), and the all time favorite for my ailments.. the lights out!! I have pics that you can see on my page.

Exactly!! Then you have bubblicious #1, OG bubblicious, Kush Bubblicious???? Come on!!! It just gets redundant.

Because there is a lot more than 4 types of weed out there lol, and you gotta admit some of the names can be pretty funny

who cares if people give their weed names? The do it for two reasons mainly: recognition and financial gain. Can't blame a guy for trying to make a buck, can u?

A rose by any other name would smell as sweet...

There is nothing wrong with marketing. You do not have to buy from seed companies.

Why is
Weed is Weed

no

Some varieties put me to sleep, headband, and a bunch of mostly sativa varieties.
Most of the time I do not want to be put to sleep.

It is nice to have names so I can avoid varieties that put me to sleep or have effects I do not want.
