Incremental changes are all it takes..it worked on Ivanka Trumps line at Nordies:


Think about your purchases and who you support..it’s worth going out of you way (paying a little extra) to take a stand..and if you don’t think so? You should think about your moral center..it’s missing.

I was going to post this in the other thread but, what the hell?

A few months ago on NPR, possibly the "Freakonomics" show, I heard some surprising shit that resonated with my experiences.

Let's say you set up a charity raising station - like a Salvation Army thing - at a Whole Foods and at a Walmart. Who do you think would raise more? Judging on demographics alone, one would expect the Whole Foods to beat the shit outta the Walmart due to the increased affluence of Whole Foods shoppers - but that isn't what happens. The Walmart beats the pants off the Whole Foods every time.

It turns out that shopping for "responsible choices" such as free trade coffee and organic oats tends to imbue one with a sense of moral superiority that results in a "fuck you" attitude toward everybody else. Thus, Whole Foods shoppers will mostly ignore the charity station whereas Walmart shoppers will toss in some change or a few bucks.

It goes deeper, people in a Whole Foods parking lot are far less willing to let another driver in front of them and much more willing to steal a parking spot from somebody who is obviously waiting for one but is blocked by the exiting car than in a Walmart parking lot.

I think the Progressives suffer from this - a sense of moral superiority that makes them spout off about helping the little guy while actually doing nothing to help them. That is why it is easy for them to come up with idealistic half-baked policies aimed at social justice that have little or no chance of being implemented while eschewing any sort of "impure" policies that could actually get enacted and help anybody. It isn't about helping people, it is about feeding their own bloated egos and patting themselves on the back for being so enlightened.

I think there is a lot of traction to the criticism of this type of SJW that rightfully got a lot of common folk pissed off in 2016.

From what you are saying, being a Progressive on the internet absolves Sanders cult members from the need to actually do something.

Such as, holding a position that we shouldn't vote for shoring up the ACA, which is necessary and do-able. Instead we should withhold our votes in favor the policy of universal healthcare which has no chance of passage in today's government and in most conservative districts is a losing policy. Meanwhile 20 million people are at risk of losing healthcare coverage. Not the Progressive but somebody else. The Progressive feels better because they feel they hold the moral high ground.

Makes sense.

Nevertheless, her post does not address the points made in mine. I guess there is a "special" type of logic at work here that I cannot fathom - thankfully.
