So I have decided to make a thread for all the stupid and not so stupid things people do or think helps in the whole grow to harvest. I will start it off with boiling water around the roots for harvest or puting ice around the base of your plant before harvest.

Myth ....tin foil causes hot spots and will burn your plants.

this one is just laughable, we can agree that tin foil is not a great reflector (flat white paint or mylar are much better at reflecting light) but there's no way the tin foil can amplify or focus the reflected light to a point it burns your plants

Fermentation cures like finshing with boiling water on roots is no myth, they smoke smoother. Biggest myths are defoliation and flushing, imo.
Yeah the whole flushing thing always starts a debate. So many swear bye it but what does it really do. All I can think is maybe people are saying water without ferts to stop some harshness

What about the old birth control pill to make sure you get a female. That makes me laugh every time
It doesn't make females....That (use of the "pill" by plants) is an old, old "thing" from the 70's. It was said that it made plants fuller and more "lush"..... it worked on my spider/Jade plants pretty good.

I would NOT try that on any plant I was going to consume in any way!

Yeah, ah, that don't work either! Not possible by the plant.....Most magazine grow writers still push the "flush" because if they didn't. The magazine would loose big advertising dollars.....Many nutrient makers sell "flushing agents"..

It would behoove many growers to wrap their heads around the fact that the vast majority of nutrient makers. Don't give a shit if they sell snake oil. Your only a means to a profit! Can you say AN, Cyco, H&G, FF, Bio Bizz. ALL junk in my book (plenty of others too)! I wish I had a buck for every shitty FF and Bio Bizz plant I've seen!

You want simple and effective?
Dyna - foliage pro
OR
Jack's citrus
Grow in a tupor mix
Supplement with K Sulfate
Harvest when ready and dry and cure properly
Boom done!

I think @Dr.Nick Riviera pretty much covered the list...
I do like the MJ specific nutrient thing! LMFAO!

Tin foil dosent spread or diffuse the lights, i think it was always the case that enough directed beams of light at a certain spot could create problems.

Reflective surfaces do better up close to the bulb, often these are so shiny they seem like mirrors. A diffuse material would do a lesser job as you want a big light beam not diffused light at this initial point.

It is far from myth that if you use tin foil the rest of us will laugh at you.

Stress and temperature can determine the sex of your beanz.
Stress no but i think the environment lends itself to determining overall ratios of sex and what not. This seems to be a trait developed in wild populations and subject of a few studies, also where the whole hermie thing seems to fit in nicely. Over more generations the effect more pronounced.

Both those examples are not myth..

Myth: Hydro is more potent than soil.
