Who Puts The MIST Into MISTer

Hi
I built a little Aero Tub set up that has been working out well. I almost dont want to mess with it..... almost. I have been using these Blue and Red things as misters. The thing is they don't mist, they spray. In fact I think they should be called sprayers. Maybe even splashers. :?

I have four of these on about 18" of tubing and powered by 250 gph pump located just a foot under the misters, I mean splashers. The folks at the hydro store say this is what they are supposed to do.

Can someone please tell me what to use to get a fine mist. (and dont say ultrasonc foggers. Dont get me going on those things). I'd love to get something I can get at Home Depot, I'll send for it if I need to. Will the real MISTER please stand up.

Thank You
Foxworth

It requires a bigger pump of that type, Foxworth, than just a 250. This type pump isn't a true pressure pump, and the way the droplet formation is created is by slamming such a large volume of water thru the impeller of it, that in spite of the design, an inevitable pressure results.

You're going to need a pump that's several orders larger than a 250, and it'll take a bit of reading around maybe before you believe me on that, but you often see pumps of 800, even 1500 gallons per hour rating, being used on this type device. Of course if yours is small with just a couple of misters, you don't have to have a thousand gallons per hour pump, but at least a 600 I'd guess, is more the order of gallons per hour you'll need.

The good thing about all this, is that these pumps are really cheap, for the number of gallons per hour they'll pump. Even a really big one probably won't cost ya but about 40 bucks or so; I dunno exactly, but if you look online, you can price one in your affordability range.

In defence of using the smallest pump you can afford, once you start thin-filming that water out through the apertures of any emitter type, there's such oxygenation being delivered to the water, that it'll serve your purpose of delivering a very highly oxygenated water supply to the roots. It's all up to how fanatical you are about the level of oxygenation you want to deliver.
