I currently am flowering in a 4x3x5 room with 320 watts of flouros, about 400 watts total with my CFLs and temps hover around 5 degrees above outside temps (shed grow).

How much heat would be added if I switched to a 400 watt HPS with ballast outside the room?

yeh! my first customer,.. and a hard 1 at that.. So thats the 400 as well as the cfls?..
A 400 adds quiet a significant amount of heat buddy, ur better off getting some airflow in that room like an exhaust..
ive got a 400 in the bedroom right now with a 400 in the closet with the doors open, and when i open the door the heat hits me in the face still..
id say it adds at least 5+ degrees CELCIUS in the vicinity immediatley above ur plants..

Ah I seem to have confused you, my apologies I am rather medicated and it has been a long day for me.

I would replace the floros completely and just use the 400 watter in that space. I'm just curious how much hotter the 400 hps is versus the 400 watts of floros.

With this exhaust I currently only warm my box around 5 degrees F higher than ambient, but I assume the HPS would be somewhat higher, perhaps 10 - 15?

ok hows this.. outside temps right now are 68.9.. in the room with the closet door and bedroom door open, with no air circ, not even a fan, and with the lights 3 foot above the tops of the plants temp is 80.6

Wow that's way less than I expected based on how many threads I see about overheating with a 400 watt HPS. With the CFMs that box fan pulls it shouldn't be an issue for me.

Thanks :weed:

keep in mind mind that 3 foot above the tops is too much tho bud, ive only got it up that high atm bcos i was dicking round in their this morning..
but also keep in mind that its a big space which wont heat up as fast and uve got a fan to help.. maybe a better fan will be needed thru summer

Weird questions, but here goes.
1. I have a 400w HPS and a 400w MH on mag ballasts with 7 x 24w CFL's to light up the dark spots in an area roughly 2m x 2m. The problem I'm having is that the HPS has recently been making a "ringing" sound. The bulb is new and the ballast is only 2 years old. Is there something wrong with the light or is it just being effected resonance coming from my 4 air pumps, two water pumps and two fans?

2. I use a product called final flush before harvest. The directions say to run clean water for 2-3 days before adding final flush to the reservoir. The thing I don't get is how long am I supposed to leave the final flush in before I harvest. An hour, a day, a week? Fucked if I know.

3. If I put my aerators in a sealed C0² rich box, would aspirating C0² into the water help things or do the roots only uptake O²? Most of my base pots look like spa's now, it would be great to be able to enrich the water with C0² if it worked.

I liked your old avatar better.

1. Is it a buzzing sound? quiet normal to do that although they really shouldnt, manufacturing fault,.. its actaully a loose 'something' in the ballast.. my old 400 buzzes
2. Conflicting opinions on this, some say flush as per normal and use final flush on the last day.,, others say no harm to use it right through the flush.. personally i dont flush, but id use on the last day, 24hrs
3. No,.. co2 is only absorbed through the stomata

The ringing sound is coming from the bulb its self not the ballast. It sounds kinda like an old alarm clock ringing inside a box full of clothes if that makes any sense.
I'm running almost 1000w off one power board with the pumps, fans etc connected to a different power circuit. My old MH hums like a bitch when its starts up but what do you expect for $40. I'll put an old globe in the HPS and see if it still does it. It might be a fault in the globe. Its just been bugging the shit out of me for weeks now and I'm also worried its going to pop or something.

Ok, just starting to grow...i have everything ready to go.

I want to know how i can go soiless but not hydroponic. just water in nutrients. Is it that more of a bitch?

Is it worth it or should i just go with foxfarm soil?

Also, if i go foxfarm, how long until i have to nute? Should i add anything to foxfarm?

Thanks,
Toolwerx

btw going 400watt with grow tent.

ive grown aero, and its not that much of a learning curve if ur reasonably bright.. same goes for dwc/bubbleponics.. do some reading, build ur system n away u go..
a more forgiving media then soil is coco,.. coco is very controllable.. all u need is canna coco, canna coco nutes a+b, and a bottle of canna pk13/14 for 1 week in flower.. nothing more, nothing less..
just mix ur nutes, ph to 6.0 and water.. done.. that nug on the first page was grown just like that:peace:

ok jus asked question about skipping germ and going straight to soil. A guy said to pre-soak the soil for 12 hrs. before planting.

12 hrs pre soak, can it be shorter or is that manditory?

Ok I'm here :bigjoint:

For soiless mix I have looked at all the popular ones and IMO the best is Sunshine Mix #4 (what I will be using in my next grow) I am now looking at things to amend it with and will add a report soon

Actually if you switch to a 400 watt hps and get rid of the cfl's your temps should come down (a small bit) and they are more easily controled because you can add ventilation to the hps hood to cool it more
