White Russian's MMJ grow

Hey everybody,

so i am going to try to run a journal for my h20 experiment. Incase no one was aware I have been a soil grower for some years. Organic compost soil, with bubbles AACT goodness BUT alas i have been tempted by the dark-side (thanks Hellrazier for that). The low down first:
It's a Titan flo n Gro 12 site kit. I have one completed grow under my belt, but it was quiet literally put up in a corner and turned on, it did so well I am expanding. so lets go on the adventure together, fingers crossed.

Well i started out with some tomato cages (ala HR)
commerical grade tomatoe cage.jpg + gro n flo.jpg = dry fit of pots and cages.jpg And of course a shot of the almighty brain brain.jpg

Now cam the interesting part of this build, the cooling system.. I thought to myself, am i really gonna pay to cool this room and pay to heat the rest of my house? thats fucking absurd.. Then i thought of the south and their swamp coolers, pulling air through a cold filter to cool the air, then some one said hydro innovations! and that looked like the answer BUT!! a couple of G's for a 1 HP chiller, go fuck off i told em.. ;)

anyone remember old old school Faith No More? "35 cents! fuck you! I'll skate to the beach and look better getting there!"
so here we go, now on to my cooling build for this room..
PARTS
parts box.jpg
it was much scarier in person, just so you know..

manafold dry fit.jpg
better now :)

and.. heres where that "thing" went.
manafold up.jpg

WOW, i don;t know if its scarier looking put together and up and running or all in a bag.. no no i know! its all laid out on the fucking receipt ;) but the game is not even half way..

So here the bees knees as it where. I took a can fan 8"HO and connected it to some ducting, connected those to a T, and the end of those T's to flex elbows and finally those flew elbows are connected to little radiators.. radiators like your car has..

cooler base.jpgalmost ready to raise.jpgswamp cooler with hoses.jpgswamp cooler.jpg
so here is how this shit works.. I have a drum the maine chiller.jpg in a bulkhead that is always cold (freezing temps) at the bottom of the drum is a flotec submersible pump. the pump picks up the ice cold water and runs it down the pipe and into the radiators. the fan (sitting on top of a home depot bucket with holes cut out) pulls air from the floor of the room and pushes it through the radiators which absorb all the heat in the air and blow out only cold air. the heat is effectively transfered to the water which is shuttled back to the drum and cooled by mother nature..

here is where we stand, updates shortly.. thanks for sitting with me guys :)

where did you get those radiators and housings for them? I've been thinking of building an external woodstove and hook up lines to bring the heat in the house with high temp tubes hooked up to radiators like those :D A way of skirting around making my homeowners insurance go up for having a wood stove since i've got lots of trees on my land to cut down :D

I used hydro inovations for there radiators but i'm kicking myself now.. go onto EBAY and search for honda radiators, 45 bucks!! hydro inovation sells these bad boys for a shit ton, i traded with a patient/grower that didn't want them anymore. But that idea sounds great! grab the PTEK from home depot (kinda pricey but works good) and run a copper piper around the wood stove a couple of times and the heat from the stove boiling the water alone should circulate it.. cleverlast part of the threead build, and the grow updates will start in a few days..Here is the heat exchanger doing its thing.ac unit at work.jpgI knew I wanted to keep the rez cool so i thought i premept the problem with a rez cooler rez chiller.jpgand insulating the rez a bit... rez tank.jpgdidn't work, the rez cooler just turned the nute rez tank into a second heat exchanger.. :( it actually heated up my nutes.. live and learn, it works the room great..a dry run with nothing in it..getting there (2).jpgand i HAD to throw these girls in, due to space issues with where my cloner was at the time, so veg will run a little long maybe 4 weeks instead of the 3 i had originaly thought..little early (2).jpg

^^ Bingo...or I thought of having a small welded stainless steel tank sitting on top of the stove with intake and exhaust ports on it to house antifreeze+water exactly like an automobile cooling system...and wrap that in an old hot water heater casing...fuck i'm such a redneck at heart...

just remember to add a pressure valve, the heated water will build pressure and if your system is sealed the built up pressure could cause issues ;) great idea mang! I love being a redneck ;)

Those are some great ideas you are bringing into play with this grow, cerberus! The WR is what caught my attn, and wow, this is great!!

I am a big fan of Simon and Serious Seed......and have grown out most of their gear....though there are some newer ones I haven't as yet. I haven't been following any journels in some time but I will this to see how the WR does for you in hydro. That is the exact bucket system I've been eyeing for awhile now too....Titan(The Ebb&Flo looks too whimpy/small)How may gallon are those buckets??. I run a GH AF/20 and a flood table.....and now really would like to go down lower and get some vertical going on. What nutes are you planning on using?

And your very right about the 'interesting cooling system!' That is quite ingenious, to say the least, in fact +rep on that!! I hope it does wonders for you, and it sounds like it should---- I actually understand how it works now just from your diy--never though through the concept before.../

Anyway, I've pulled up my chair, hope that's cool!!

I'd think about going full hydro (i use a weird hybrid hemp setup) but my power is too flakey - i generally have one 24+hour outage a year. Good luck - now i know who to call when i get my generator!

yeah, i still have my geny from the great ice storm.. I will never go 30+ days melting snow to flush a toilet again!! ;)

@growinman
this is my second run with WR, the first from seed to find my pheno's and even they where grown on the back burner but still came out phenomenal! so i am pretty excited, these are the more indica leaning pheno. I am running House and Garden's aqua flakes. the buckets are 4 gallons but with all the hydroton (and its a lot) the water displaces at something like 2.75 gal a pot. I have heard concerns the pots are to small BUT honestly even in early veg I have root x2 the size of soil grows.. <shrug>

from the top.jpg

Thanks for all the props guys! like i have said, i am pretty new at the whole water thing, so this is a bit of an experiment, I appreciate the kind words.

btw: if/when i upgrade from this it will be a UC, but that is a whole new can of worms.

It is truly amazing what a little "Blood, Sweat, and Tears" can "Cream" together when need be. Sometimes I think that we are all just a bunch of "Animals" waiting for the box to arrive, when we could just have done it ourselves at our near by HomeTeapot or Wally World.

first I wanna say thanks to everyone for checking it out and chimeing in, I appriciate it. I know these journals are usually pretty slow, especially when not in the flower show stages.. lol

and

A quick update on the room for everyone, day 3 of veg. everything has perked up and they are loving moving from the T5 to the 1K MH bulb. in a day or so, the light will double and then half that one more time. So I'll be flowering under 3K.

You'll notice a new max fan on the floor, these things are so much nicer than the old can fan i have for the two radiators. next time, i'm only getting these max fans, quiet and a lot of air.
day 3 (1).jpg
and a couple other shots, to get a good perspective

day 3 (2).jpgday 3 (3).jpg

and finally, the brain bucket with my "injection of goodness" (Mycro's, sugar's and Sea Green bubbled for 24 hours) this soup is poored into the brain during fill. putting the mycro's (+ food) right onto the roots
brain bucket goodness.jpg

thats is all. :)

Looks like you have this all dialed in my friend. Frothy looking soup there also. Again, I am totally amazed by the number of ways this has evolved over the years. I am now realizing how much time and effort, not to say the cost of everything that goes into such an operation.

Had I known then, back in the late 70's, how Mj and MMj were to come together, I think I would now have at least 35 years of growing experience under my belt today. A friend of mine and myself one spring, just planted a few bagseeds in a guys abandoned field and got some great highs off of it. Ahh those were the years.....

Quick update, everything is moving along nicely. I had/have an issue with heat build up in my lines, of all places.. the water in the lines heats up to the high 90's, causing the left over water in the buckets to heat, and bringing the rez temps up when flood and drain happens.. I am working on this now, covering up the hoses with panda, covering the tops with panda as well.. the heat helped build bad bactaria and some root concern. :/ but the ball always rolls

This is a issue I have run into with all my ebb system! One thought I had was to build up a sub floor
And run the flood lines under it out of the heat of the lights!
