Which strain to choose..

Hey everyone. This grow will be done soon and it took a bit longer than I liked. It's the xxxog or triple og. Does anyone have any suggestions on what strain to aim for next time if I have a 3x3 area and the plants can't get higher than 4 feet but I am going to scrog so doesn't matter TOO much. I'm looking for one that has great potency and look but also has the ability to actually give a good yield. I'm using a 600w hps and might throw a 250w mh in at the same time. I can change temps from 75 to 85 but I will be running co2 so 85. I'd like a strain that finishes quicker. Thanks in advance!
 
I would run something that tends to do well in a SOG.... If you prefer SCROG you are already putting so much time into vegging finishing fast just seems idk counter intutive to me with how much time is already spent.

I have a purp. kush that finish in about 7.5 weeks, and grows awesome sog with these fatty top colas.

This was my first time doing scrog. Before i had a tomato cage for each plant. I flipped these ones at a foot tall hoping for 3.5-4 feet.. they grew to the net at 2 feet.. I filled it up, then I had to add another net because they grew another 3 almost 4 feet! If I didn't tie them down so much I bet they would be over 5 feet tall. Total veg time was a week. (From clones)

I have 3 seeds of purple ak-47 (gdp) I want to use but don't really have space for a mother so they would be wasted. I am thinking of growing one until I get a female, stressing it somehow so it hermies then having it pollinate itself so I get femanized seeds.. that would be really nice. Then I would need a veg station.

If I had a true indica would scrog really be a waste since they grown taller for about a month in flowering? I got xxxog this time thinking it was an indica 60 day strain.. then to my surprise it grew like a sativa. Apparently that is the chemdawg and og's tend to grow long too i hear. Do indica's give that much less than sativa's or hybrid's when in "optimum" conditions?

If you want to go for scrog then its Chronic from serious seed, it will yield big time and potency is so strong :)

Ill second this! If smell isnt an issue you should also look into his AK47 :)
 
Awesome. I'll check it out now. Thank you very much. Is there any need to worry about having seeds shipped to my address even though I have a card.. seeds are "illegal".. damn controlling bastages. Had seeds one time when cops came a long time ago from ex calling on me.. saw grow and everything was fine.. they saw seeds and I went to the cozy barred room haha.
 
Just checked out serious seeds. I really like those two strains but it says they don't send to America. :( Will check out Sannies.

Indica's true indica's do not tend to need a scrog for support, maybe 1 main stake but that is about it.

Chem/OG Lines are not Indica!! They are hybrid some nearly 75% sativa!!! You can see it in the stretch that is for sure!!!! There was also more then 1 article in both skunk and high times in regards to that common misconception.

Now there must be more going on that if you flip a 10-12in. clone it ends up 4ft by the end of flower. MY first guess is that your light is much 2 high, forcing the plant to stretch alot more then nessecary to get into the "Sweet spot" light area.

Second, to much P and K at the begining of flower will cause stretch as well.

I use bushmaster to limit stretch specially on anything from the Chem Line which is known to look like Bamboo from how bad it can stretch out. Also I run a MH or FLORO's for the first 10-14 days of flower in order to help keep node spacing tighter.

Other then that my 10-12in clone send up about 2ish maybe 2.5 ft tops and that is on the most sativy, lumbery growing stuff. Generally they tend to double if I dont bushmaster them..... It all depends on genetics but most of my SOG genetics I can top and then flip @ 10ish inches, they finish around 20-24in and have 2 nice 7-10in main colas per 92.6oz. sq pot.
 
Yeah I was as surprised as you are with my results. They stretched more than the green crack I used to grow. I have the light 6" from the tops now and that is the furthest the light has been. It is usually 2"-3".. because I didn't have space as they grew. I ended up rigging a new place for the light to hang with twisty ties. Temps are 83 during day with 1500ppm co2. Night time temps 68 since lower night temps prevent stretching?

As for nutes I use lucas formula 7/8 strength, 1/2 at first. Also use cal/mag/iron at 7/8 recommended dose 1/2 at first, silica same way. I use kool bloom powder at .25 tsp for 5 gal instead of 1.25 and now I use 1 tsp. My ppm's were 600 to start and steadily increased to 1,300-1,400. No nute burn the whole run. Ph always 5.5. Water temp 70. Ro water. I also use so microbes.. only endo. Not ecto or trichs.

I looked up the strain after I got it since I was told it is indica 60 day flower.. it doesn't grow short so I figured it wasn't. Learned it is a 70-80 day sativa dominant so I am unfortunately harvesting the day I am moving. Luckily that is 73 days. Haha
 
Rob: Sounds like everything is in check as far as lighting and nutes go. Specially since ur ramping up the nute does gradually.

I have a purple kush that is indica for sure, monster leaves and 1 main stalk..... she actually put on quite the stretch this time, not that big but nearly doubled from 12-24in. in like the first 2 weeks of flower and started to push towards the light which i just barely moved up and left in place as its almost maxed out.

Not the first time I have grown this genetic but for whatever reason this one just wanted to stretch like that..... :-/ can't win em all.

I am a big advocate for bushmaster as I have used it for the last 1.5 years now and have had awesome results from it!!! Really does help keep those super stretchers in line!
 
Look for indica dominate strains they finish usually around 8-9 weeks and don't grow as tall as a sativa

not always. john sinclair sativa trans love is about as short as you can get, flowers like crazy, AND smokes no worse than a generic haze
 
Might wanna check out PGR like Bushnaster,i was using Gravity till heard about the health risk.
