which light would be better?

Hps and mh set ups are nice...you can go between flower and veg with the same set up...go with the one for $149
 
I really couldn't say because both of those links have off-brand cheapo digital ballasts. I'd at least get a Galaxy or lumatek ballast, but I'm sure somebody else will tell you the cheap ones are fine....you get what you pay for in my experience with grow supplies

ok thank you for the reply. I was thinking of just vegging with CFLs then using HPs for flowering. Is that an ok idea or just use the 250 MH for vegging?
 
Clf's will work great for veg,then switch to high pressure sodium bulb for flowering.

or setup a metal halide for veg,high pressure sodium for flower.

or be a pimp and setup cfl's and a metal halide,then for flower keep the CFL's going and switch to a high pressure sodium
 
Get the wing...and flourescent is considered better for veg so that will work...but he is right they are cheap ballasts, look into getting a Quantum or Lumatek
 
The cool tube lets you cool, but light loses a little bit of intensity going through the glass. But heat would be a problem in the uncooled one, so it's dependent on your setup and how you are going to keep it cool. 400watt HPS is about 1500BTU....cheapo window AC cools about ~5000 BTU

I will be growing in a grow tent. I will be using a inline fan with carbon filter to help with smell and heat.
 
I'm actually just now flowering it. She is a beauty. My grow journal got messed up somehow picture-wise so you aren't able to tell much from it....stupid forum lol. I'm gonna end up just making a new journal since its a new year though.

what breeder are you trying? DNA or greenhouse?

I grow with a 600 watt hps in a tent slightly taller than that.
You are not going to need to dim a 250.

You could easily do a 400 watt hps with a cooled reflector.
Your tent will be about 3-5 degrees warmer than your temps around the tent.
