Which light to use??

Hey,

This is my first thread and I am trying to see what would work best. Obviosuly it is going to take some tweaking til I perfect it. But I would like my first yield to be good.

After reading, I plan on going 100% hydro.

I was looking into a 600 watt HPS lamp.. Is too much? or would 400 suffice?

I also do not know much about the average yields per plant and so forth because I am sure I will not be very good at cloning. But I would like to grow just one plant. And I am trying to set up the most cost efficient grow room at this point.

Oh also, I am planning on using a combo of cuttingboard/waterfarm with expanded clay/rockwool as a medium.

The "best" you can hope for is 1 gram per watt of light, dry weight. That's a 14 oz. yield from a 400 watt HPS light. It's not based on "per plant", it's based on using the lighted area to it's maximum efficiency - in other words, an expert grower should be able to get that if he does everything right. Most "experienced" growers are happy with about half of that (6-8 oz.). A "noob" should consider himself lucky if his plants live and he yields 3-4 oz., unless he is really lucky. Of course, results will vary, but this is a pretty good Rule of Thumb.
