Which is better

If you DIY a fixture from led strips you will usually spend less money and have better performance. If you buy a board kit you spend less time, which could be considered "better" (apparently).

Especially the height needed above the canopy with QB's is a big issue. You basically have one light point per 2'x2' space. With COBs you generally have one COB per 1'x1' and strips will usually be packed even tighter.

This means that COBs and strips can be hung at half the distance to the plants (or less). Cutting wall losses in half. This means 10% to 20% more light on the plants. Plus better "penetration" since you have better spread out the light points over the grow.
