I am thinking about moving to california in the next year. I want to live in the land of the golden sun and lenient mmj laws. I was looking into humbolt county. Does anyone with EXPERIENCE have any thought on where a prime location in cali would be? i am looking for specifics like
-how much you are authorized to grow in that area. How affordable is housing
job market etc .

any tips would be good. I like the idea of northern california but im open to some opinions.
so if ther is anyone out there with PERSONAL EXPERIENCE with this please post or pm me.

Well, I've lived in Humboldt county for over four decades.

Housing is very very expensive. The County of Humboldt is about to enact a draconian land use law that will be bad for everyone who is a patient, limiting us to only fifty square feet per property, not patient.

No pets, $1,500 2-bedroom rentals and landlords that inspect every 60-90-days to assure you are not growing.... Humboldt is no longer the haven that it once was. If you have $250K for a new house, you might fare better than trying to rent something here. Rentals are simply not available for 215 here. I'd guess that less than 1% of all landlords would allow it while over 50% are actively trying to discover and prevent it.

The job market is non-existent. Check craigslist, it shows basically every job available in the county. If you are an MD, we need you. However, there are tons of college graduates working for under $10 per hour here. Jobs suck in Humboldt.

Maybe Mendo is cheaper, more pet friendly and isn't enacting draconian laws.

I hope this helps....

Medocino here:
Not quite as bad as homboldt: rentals for 2bdrms around $1200. But same goes for landlords and growning. If you live here for a while, and get to know folks, then you have a chance to find a pot friendly rental. Im on the coast, in southern mendocino county, very very pot friendly, from the county government on down right until you get to private property owners.
Because we are coastal, micro-climates have a lot to do with where to grow, all good outdoor here is grown on our ridge (1/2 mile inland), the good news, prices are cheapest there because there usually isnt an ocean view.
Our county sheriff has a voluntary program where you can register your garden, but nobody does it. Pot is the currency on the street here. Jobs dont exist at all, but if you're moderately discreet, then growing wont be a big deal - just dont do trespass grows!
Supplies easily available, great genetics around and also easily available, great expertise around, and easily available.
There is a reason we call it Meccca ;-)

hey thaks guys that was some good info
lol
i tought humboldt was it for sure.

is there a specific area in medocino that i should be looking at?
I would like to find a place that i can have a decent sized legal, indoor grow without having to worry about getting harrased. I am looking for places that have relaxed mmj laws (allows larger number of plants). However, I would need to find some type of part time or full time work. I just finished my AA degree and working on my bachelors but i would do any job i could get. I just really want to move to the area.MMJ friendly and great Harley weather, the real American dream
