When to transplant

my plants are 2 weeks old, and have a 2nd set of fan leaves, they are in clear party cups and the roots are pretty much at every edge of the cup pressed against it looking for places to go, when will it be all good to transplant.

I'd give them another 5 - 7 days to get established, they are pretty fragile right now, if thats at least a 12 oz cup they should be fine waiting a bit longer.

your saying these plants pictured are busting out of the sides? i find that hard to believe, well if they really are make sure you tape the sides so light cant get in or they will stunt big time

When I start my babies in 16 oz party cups, I usually wait until they have about 5 sets of leaves.

is this your first grow?

are you growing outdoors or indoors?

they arent busting out of the sides. they have found their way to to sides and are halfway up the cup, also i can see the roots on the bottom of the cup too. im sure theres time, it just looks like they would be so much more comfortable in a fatter pot, anyhow i taped up the sides, with masking tape lol. so im not sure how well thats gonna work, and no juggalo dude, this isnt my first grow, it is an indoor grow, i have a sort of journal going here https://www.rollitup.org/cfl-growing/297906-3-dank-bagseeds-1st-cfl.html

i would not transplants at this stage, maybe thats just me but i ussually wait till they are looking stronger then this, i think if you try you will tear the roots or worst the stem

you definitely have a valid point. im going to put a more adequate cover on the outside of my cups. and give it some time..

eh, i wouldnt be so sure, those roots can grow alot quicker than the plant. it'll be alright to wait for a lil while but i wouldnt wait too long.

i'm not by any means suggesting waiting a long time, but would you in good conscience say its ok to transplant this young? 'cause i can;t

yeah, I would. it should be ok, but i can also see where your coming from too. if you dont feel comfortable transplanting yet then its still too early i suppose.like he said-its not critical yet.

whats the worst that can happen if the roots are all pressed up against the cup trying to get out, what could that cause, and how long might they have to be in that state of stress for it to effect them?

they are looking for room to grow into. thats what them pressing up on the sides mean. they should be alright for a lil while till they start growing into the voids in the soil and get rootbound.
