When to take cuttings?

Can I take cuttings from a plant that the leaves have not actually fully opened yet? if that makes sense? They havent comleted folded out yet. Also...can you still flower a mother plant and grow it as normal even if its had cuttings taken from it?

i took cuttings for the first time this round but i waited for the plants to mature and start sowing pre flowers this way you know all your cuttings will be fully mature as to the leaves opening up yet i don't know what that means but if they're old enough or big enough i don't see it hurting if they are still young and not far out of the seedling stage i'd just top each of them and use the top off each as a clone rather than butchering them whilst their still little. lots of people flower off their mothers mate you shouldn't have any probs there but if you do take a lot of cuts off it i'd give it a wk or 2 to recover before throwing her in 12/12 i'm no pro mate hopefully some1 can give you some better advise but i'm pretty sure evrything i said above is cherry i took clones off all my females and put them into flower after a wk or so of recovery

I waited til 6 weeks from seed this time...dunno yet if its gonna work (only cut about 24 hours ago) - waiting for about a month from seed is the bare minimum if you ask me...you gotta have a few budsites up the plant before you cut any off (also - I've been hearing recently to take the older branches for cloning coz they're more likely to work or something...)
