When to Harvest Green Crack?

I’d love to hear from growers of Green Crack (my seeds were from Grower’s Choice) as to when you harvested. Everything I read suggests an earlier harvest for a more uplifting high and later harvest for couchlock. And somewhere in the middle for a balanced effect. I‘m at day 55 of Flowering phase, and am wanting the uplifting effect of the earlier harvest time. Of course I’m torn between not wanting to wait too long and not wanting to lose yield by harvesting too soon. I will appreciate hearing any of your experiences (or seeing photos) of what your Green Crack buds looked like when you harvested and a description of the effect. Thanks so much.

Here’s the basics of my grow (my first): 4 plants from seed, hydroponic, 4x4 tent, LED, Gen Hydro Nutients + Hydroguard and Cal-Mag.

If the first photo won’t load for you, try the second one; it is a smaller file of the same photo.

Harvest when they're done. Those are not done. A couple weeks at least regardless of what the breeder times state.

As far as harvesting early for a head high. If you want a head high grow a sativa and harvest when ready. If you want couchlock then grow an indica dominant strain and harvest when done. If you want inbetween grow a hybrid and harvest when done.

Don't grow a strain that is couchlock when done and harvest early because you want a head high.

Green Crack is a Sativa dominant hybrid. The early/late harvest comments were those that I have read specific to this strain. I am looking for folks to share their experiences specific to Green Crack and I believe that is what I asked for.

I had to harvest a little early this time...not really by choice...life thru me a curveball...harvested at week 8 and under normal circumstances I would've lettem go at least another 2weeks from the way they looked...maybe 3...im sure I lost quite a bit on weight bc in my opinion they hadn't really started bulking up yet...I braced myself to be disappointed with the potency and high...but I'm happy...surprisingly happy...upbeat heady high that has legs lasts at least a good 3+hrs...will I do it again?..no I like letting my plants finish and like I said I lost a good bit of weight...abt 75% cloudy the rest clear mainly is what I had...four plants Chemdog Guicey G Chemical fire and Bubba Og...I've mainly been smoking the Chemog and letting the rest cure properly but the smell taste and hi is better than I expected and I actually like It alot20210403_184958.jpg20210405_144813.jpg20210403_235104.jpg20210403_235134.jpg

It's green crack so it's different than all other weed ;-)

I still say grow it until it's done. It doesn't matter if it Green Crack or Purple Smurple. Cannabis is always best when it's grown until it's done. You can tell when it's done just by visual appearance without looking at the trichomes. But if you want to mess around looking at trichomes and trying to decide if there is X amount of clear, cloudy, or amber then go ahead. I'm sure a Green Crack expert will show up with a scoped picture showing you the exact time to harvest for what you're looking for.

Thank you. I really appreciate the information about harvesting 75% cloudy resulting in considerably reduced yield of upbeat heady high. Am I to assume your photos are of this harvest?

I will assume you are being sarcastic. Although I don’t see the need for the snarky attitude, I will stipulate that, to a certain extent, weed is weed. But perhaps you might remember back to when you were a first time grower. If you were like me, you read everything you could get your hands on, often resulting in information overload, but always presenting a challenge to apply this new-found knowledge to what you were seeing inside your grow tent.
This is the first time I posted a thread about or during my grow. I thought if I narrowed it down to Green Crack, I might get just a little more targeted insight.

I’m not arguing, I’m genuinely asking why you say that. When I look at my photo Isee a majority cloudy trichomes with 40 -50% of the pistils turned dark. That is the “definition of ready” from what I’ve read. Granted, I was sure hoping the buds would be bigger and more dense, so I am happy to hear you say it’s not ready. But I am also really NOT wanting to losing the energetic, creative, heady qualities. What do you see or not see that tells you it’s not ready? Thank you!

Unfortunately the correct answer to these questions is always another 10 days. Give it a week and see how it looks.

Thinking back to when I was but a young grower I remember being worried about “picking too late“ and ruining the energetic quality. I did not want to be stuck to the couch intent on watching the fresh prince of bel-air instead of going to work. I had ordered the seeds from Canada with cash in an envelope which took forever so I really did not want to mess up my bud at the end. I waited until it was exactly 55 days of 12/12 just as the breeder suggested.
People on RIU (which btw at the time I accessed through AOL dial up internet & was charged hourly) said wait until pistils are mostly dark so I had stopped giving miracle grow and flushed the week prior. Looked like the very definition of done to me so I chopped it and hung it to dry. The bud was loose, airy, weak, and barely had smell. That is because it was not fully ripened which I realized much later on in subsequent grows.
Density, flavor, and potency happens in the final weeks. Be it green crack, LSD, or
Purple urkle; same goes for all. Wait until ALL of the pistils turn dark and then begin to recede back into the bud. They will probably even fatten up slightly from here. Be patient. Three more weeks at least I estimate. Nobody is steering you wrong here; you will learn to have a more snarkier attitude once you get a few more grows under the belt. Comes with experience; every pot snob was a noob once....

With 40%-50% of pistils orange/brown the majority of your trichomes are not cloudy. Don't worry about when other people's plants finished and worry about yours. Wait until the calyx have swelled and the pistils have receeded towards the calyx. That's done.

Bless your heart! Thank you very much. (btw, I too am of a certain age to remember AOL dial-up)
