When to do topping/FIMing?

Depends on your preference as a gardener. I like to use my "tops" as clones. So I tend to wait a little longer than some. Plus I want to make sure I have a couple of good shoots below to turn into the new tops.

How old are your plants? Soil? Lighting?

Using the tops as cones is a great idea, how do you do that? Just cut at an angle and apply rooting hormone?

They are 6 weeks old, soil is 50% organic potting soil with 50% perlite and some hydrocorrals. Light is a 400 w HPS but it was run on 275 for a couple weeks during the day for temperature control reasons. Here is a picture from a couple days ago. I have tied it down for LST. I guess one thing I am confused about this procedure is when a plant is tied like this, how do you know which part of the plant to top? Any other suggestions welcome. Thanks for the reply :)

Thank you for the link, very helpful :)

Using a top as a clone is the exact same process as taking a clone, u just happen to be taking the top off the plant. So yes, cut with VERY sharp, clean, blade (razor is best) and then dip directly into root hormone and directly into medium (rockwool rootriot whatever) if you are taking many clones just put them directly into water when u cut and then re-cut before u plant.

I topped early and the plant exploded...I just cut two more tops this morning. This one should have quite a few colas. How many more weeks should I wait until I flip this plant to flower? Take a look and let me know your thoughts. Thanks.
