When should I transplant my seedlings into aeroponics

I am just finishing my first grow. It's doing OK. Now I learned how to make my own aeroponic system. So I bought some fem. White Widow Max seeds and started them out in Jiffy caps (or whatever they'er called) and now they are getting kind of tall and the roots are growing out of the bottoms. How can I tell they're ready and how do I transplant them into the clay balls? here's pics so I can help you help me. Please and thank you.

Well, I saw you had 24 views and no posts so i figure I will give it a go.

Jiffy plugs are a clay like stuff you start seeds in and then plant it in soil.

If you put them into your hydroton it will make a real mess in your res. and maybe clog water lines and or pumps.

So I guess you figured out by now you don't want to do this again right?
But how are you going to do it, well I just had a similar problem. I had clones in rapid rooter cubes and I broke the cubes apart and got down to just roots, I saved most of the roots, lost most the root hairs but then I put collars on them and into aeroponics so anything is possible.

Do you think you can wash most of the clay off then set them into the hydroton and water them real good for the first few days?

I bet you will be fine, I just set the roots into the hydroton and covered them.

These clones came out of my aeroponics tub and are going into hydroton. They are doing fine.

when do I know they are ready? They have only their first set of leaves.

Well, first thing I would do is get one of those cubes that don't have a plant in it and see if I could soak it or run it under water and dissolve it in water. If so, you are good to go. (being a hydro guy I havent actually used them before but I heard of nightmares) Then I would let the plant get a hold on life and grow a bit more. usually a plant starts with a set of single blade leaves, then there pointers, then five pointers. I would say the second set of five pointers and they should be large enough to do it.

Then for future grows use rapid rooter plugs. Those you can just drop in hydroton and they wont dissolve and make a mess.

I would think so, keep the roots dark and damp with drainage.

Those are good to go. I just transplanted some like that the other day and they worked out great.

You can put the jiffy plug into the net basket and surround it with Hydroton as long as the nylon cover is still around the peat moss. If you want to remove the jiffy puck it is not hard to do at all. Just carefully cut the nylon bag that holds it all together and run tepid water over the root ball with a light stream. Jiffy pucks are basically peat moss and after they are wet the only thing that holds them together is the mesh bag. The peat will just rinse off with a little patients. Let them get at least 3 internodes on the before you go messing with them. They are very fragile in seedling stage. Good luck
