I think you should be the top when you have 4-6 knots on the plants.It may be more useful if we new how they were.Only top your plants when they are in the growth cycle.I do the top during flowering cycles. The plant will use energy to repair itself, instead of reaching production.In vegetative state you can start up when power them.Make sure to sterilize your scissors carefully.

If height is not an issue leave them alone. If you do do it chances are good you will get 2 to 5 main colas instead of just one.

I think training methods are best done early. So the lower growth can actually catch up. I fimmed mine at the 7th / 8th node and they're growing slow as hell now for some reason.
Next time I'm gonna FIM / LST mine right when they hit the veg period, after the 1st five-blade leaf set.
