When do you start counting flowering time?

When people say 8 weeks flowering, for example, do they start counting from the time a plant was switched to 12/12 or from the time the very first white hairs came out?

I make note of the day of flip for reference only. It's ready when it's ready. Scope the trichs and let the plant tell you it's done. Most breeders IMO will shorten their published flower time a little to make their strain more attractive or maybe they grow under near perfect lab conditions IDK

Thank you, I was wondering this because many Spanish growers say they cut the Lilly strain at 8 weeks, even if the trichs are transparent and apparently this is the way in which this particular strain gets the best effect/taste.

I just go with the look of the plant when to get my scope out and check the trichomes...
Clear, cloudy, or amber and all that is down to personal method imo...

i start counting at switching the light to 12/12, from seed or clone. most finishing around 9 weeks, some quicker some take longer depending on strain. also using clones usually shaves a week of flowering times.

I never even pay attention to any "COUNT"! It's when their done that counts!

If you must attempt to figure days......Most breeder reports give you a "general idea" of weeks.....In the REAL world...It's more like 2 weeks longer then they say on average! ALL the time!

A lot of folks say start counting when the stretch is over.......About the same as saying to simply add 2 weeks!

A week or two after flipping to 12/12 is start of flowering for me.

When they refer to flowering times, its from when you flip 12/12. Any other answer is wrong. Just email the seed companies and they will tell you the same.

You need to have perfect conditions, but generally speaking mine have always finished around the same time as they say or a week more max

I always needed an extra week or two past the seed banks guide, i feel they are a touch too quick.

I count from when i flip so i can compare strains.​

But it seems breeders count from the first sign of buds (white pistils) so they can understate the actual time.

If you grow from seed and flip before you see preflowers form then add a couple weeks to breeder times.

If you grow from clone and flip then add about a week to breeder times.

Of course this is all strain dependent, but the above has been true for all the hybreds i have grown...
