when do i cut the stem to make 2

just wondering when im in veg when can i cut the stalk to make 2 colas and then 4 thanks for the help

I usually top the first time after the third node and remove the lower growth for Sativa and hybrids..
Some Indicas, I don't top at all.. they usually stay short and get quite bushy w plenty of tops..
Once you top let it recover then top again... check this out !!

Unless you're doing a screen of sorts, I'd do maybe 3 rounds tops. 1 or 2 is good. It really all depends on your set up. I just cut down a 5'er with 6 arm length colas. Some strains can't handle the process and you have to deal with fat colas sagging down spindly branches, or maybe all those extra branches don't really produce much.

I recently had a strain that usually produces small yields re-veg after being monster cropped from clone. A re-veg plant that re-vegged. The result was hideous, but after being trimmed the plant revealed the longest, fattest colas I've ever seen from this strain.

TL;DR: wait for plant to harden off a bit and bonsai off the second or third node and repeat depending on your strain and setup.
