What's The Real PH Level?

Greetings Fellow Growers,

So I have two questions about my PH level. I'm Getting two different PH Values. Meaning, When I Add the DR. Meter PH reader into dry soil it reads 7.0. When I water the Pots and insert the DR.Meter into the Wet soil, It reads 5.5. My Runoff water is 7.2. My Dr meter is brand new and i dont think its malfunctioning.

1) What's my soil real PH level.
2) Why Dry and Wet soil gives two difference values.

You can't get a ph reading from dry soil. You'll find soil to be a buffer meaning it will absorb a low or high ph solution and by the time the solution is consumed the ph will be close to middle of the road..within reason. Hit your plants with a 4 or 10 and buffer or not it's no Bueno. If it were hydro then yes you better be close with your numbers. Soil not so much. Just my experience thus far

I have a Dr. Meter pH meter and nothing about it says to stick it in dirt. In fact the probe must be kept clear and moist. Stored properly like all other pH pens and meters. And why in hell pH test soil? Unless it's some weird concoction you made up.
