Whats a good 2-way meter for soil (ph & moisture)? I've been looking in the hydrofarm catolog and found an active-air one that requires no batteries but it looks cheap. Would rather have something digital and accurate. I have been watering everyday but I'm using 8" pots and I'm thinking I need to water every other day.

If i was you i would just get the ph meter you really dont need a moisture meter you have fingers. save your $$$

i don't use a soil pH meter - I don't trust those cheap things and even if your soil was off, what are you going to do? you always want to feed pH'd water - so what else can you do, flush I guess but I think the important thing is the water, not the soil

watering everyday is not a good thing
soil needs to dry out between waterings, and each watering should be a good drenching. water till it starts to run out the bottom. depending on temps, size of plants, and humidity, I water every 2-4 days.

moisture meters are OK, but after a while you can just tell the moisture content by the weight of the pots

that's just my take on it. it seems to work for me.

Would, but unfortunatley my soil is packed, I know packed soil is terrible for the roots. I broke up the top inch of the soil so the water would drain a little more evenly but I didn't want to go any deeper in fear I would damage/expose the roots. So its hard to get my cherry poppin' fingers in there lol. So any suggestions on a 2-way???

Never meant to pack the soil just when I put the peat pellets with clones in the soil it got packed trying to fit to much soil.

Yea after doing some research I've decided to water a little heavier every other day, I'm using clay pots cuz i heard they work well and I have some rocks in the bottom for drainage so the pots are already heavy. But thanx for the tip I'll definately +rep. Thanks

PS isn't watering until water pours out considered flushing? I flush 2 days b4 I present a new micronutrient to the nutrient solution.

you use a lot more water when you flush - maybe 3x the normal amount of water
cheers
