Whatcom county mmj- too close to the dea office?

I have noticed that compared to anywhere else in the us, when you get up near bellingham the mmj movement slides to the shadows, you notice noone up there runs a dispensary, sells mmj on craigslist or anything like that.
Other towns have many dispensarys, lots of craigslist weed and more of an open presence.

My theory is that the big dea office on barkley st. and the proximity to the border makes things scary, does anyone else have an explanation or opinion on this?

Just as a resident of the upper sound area I can give an opinion. For what it's worth. I know of at least 1 THCF listed provider in the bellingham area. They've never had fed problems. I think it's just a matter of conservatism in a given community combined with the attitudes of the local sheriff/police and Prosecuting Attorney. For example: there are NO openly operating distribution centers in my county and only 1 THCF listed provider. It is a conservative community while the PA has come out and stated that his office wants to stop prosecuting personal possesion of MJ completely because it's a waste of money. While in Kitsap county, last I heard the sheriff was still dragging med users into court. The way my lawyer put it was something like this. "The only ones who can tell you what the law is are the people who can arrest or prosecute you. The law is vague and everyone knows it."
So why so few around bellingham? Despite the liberal attitudes prevalent in Bellingham they are still socialy very conservative on the political levels while the attitudes of the local enforcement is as yet largely untried. BTW city governments can deny licensing and permits even if the state grants one to a business. It is also likely the council isn't granting them.

Great point guitargod...Ive thought the craigslist posting thing was really strange, the lack of in Whatcom and Skagit but TONS in King, Pierce and Thurston. I know the market may be bigger but definately not proportional. Maybe Whatcom has operated under the radar for so long and have developed systems so that they just dont need to go public? Not sure about the PA opinions on possession, but with such a crazy college population, either they catch'em and fine'em or turn their cheek. Also, I personally, have so much trouble trying to figure out how to/who to deal with via the internet cause its not like you can ask a person via PM "are you a cop?". Evidently they got over this phobia down south!

And yes I know if both parties have their card then its "legal" but not unheard of to get hassled, and a hasslin is NOT what im lookin for.

Population density not enough patients to make it worth while is my 1st guess. 2nd the area is too isolated for people traveling from out of the area. The Seattle area is centralized for everyone the intersection of I-5 & I-90 a little further north I-5 & SR-2.

Lets all be thankful for what we have and please lets all take the time to read and educate your self about the proposed changes in the WA State Medical Marijuana Laws in 2011.

Make sure while you are reading it to look up the referenced RCW's within the bill and not just read the surface of the bill. Knowledge is power.
