What would you do? (hermie hypothetical)

Okay I have 4 plants going right now (white widow, freeze cheese 89', new York power diesel, tan dream). The ww,fc89, and nypd will all be done in 2-3 weeks; however the tangerine dream has 4-5 weeks left. A couple days ago I spotted a nanner on a ww cola. I tweezed it off and then the next day there was approximate 12 nanners on the ww plant. I tweezed them off but I'm unsure if I will be able to maintain this for 2-3 weeks. I know it is to late to make viable seeds; however if it were to pollinate the tangerine dream (right next to it). Then that would really effect the tan dreams resin production. What would you guys do? Go ahead and harvest the widow? I'm thinking try to keep plucking the nanners for another week and harvest it.. Thoughts?

Risky unless you want to breed Tangerine Widow. Sack a decent harvest for a new strain. Just a thought. Nanners can mature and pop very quickly. Unless you want to devote the next 2-3 weeks to checking every 12 hours or so, you have to either seperate it, kill it, or get some seeds. But you knew all that already right?

seperate it and keep tweezing as much as possible till harvest, then if you have a few seeds in your bud it is what it is, least the rest of your crop is not affected.

Tangerine widow , i like it (Y)

problem is since the plant hermied naturally wont the offspring be more prone to being hermaphrodidtes?

i know they stress hermie plants to make fem seeds but its not done naturally....really no clue what im talking about

Thanks for the feedback. Technically I do not have another room or light to finish the ww with as of right now. However I do have a tent, so what I'm thinking is leave the widow in for a cpl more days or right before I can't continue to keep up with the nanners :) then remove the widow to the outside of my tent. Then I'm thinking of wrapping a big black trash bag over and around the widow and let it sit outside of my tent in complete darkness for a couple days. The harvest her. Think that will help with any last bit of resin production? I'm def gunna smoke the widow other than the damn nanners it kicks ass!

"White Dream" might be better..... it has both direction.......... and magnitude :hump:

White Dream does sound incredible.. However thru this route I'd prolly just end up with a bunch of hermied White Dreams.. Then we'd have to call it Wet dream.. Haha lame one! but I'm stoned

lol yeah it was the same joke i was making but i botched it to =). either way i hope it works out, and if its for personal smoke a few seeds wouldnt be that bad.

It's mainly for personal use although if I get in a pinch and need a buck then I'll sell some. Honestly I'd prolly leave in there and just pick out the few seeds.. But I've heard once a plant gets pollinated it basically shuts down resin production and starts working to form seeds. If the hermie is gunna effect the high then I best remove her. Anybody disagree with the pollinated female shutting down resin production?

The more I think about it the more I'm leaning to removing it. Now I'll have my 1000 hps finishing just 3 plants so it may up my yield. What do you guys think about covering it and sitting it outside my tent for 2-3 days in darkness before harvesting it?? Thoughts?

ok, if that is the way you have chosen to go, I would suggest doing it now. A single burst nad can pollenate your whole grow. It does not need to happen in the tent either. If you come in contact with your grow, or if the tent and the room it's in share the same air, it's gonna cause an issue. Put the bag on her, hack her ASAP and let it sit for a few days. When you open it do it no where near the tent. All this is of course just what I would do in he situation, especially if she has good smokeable bud on her.

I'm waiting until the lights kick on. If it's only 12 or so nanners each day then I'll just tweeze them off. I'm just blaring it by ear. If I go in and there's quite a few nanners then she's being removed and wrapped with a bag for 2-3 days then I'll cut it down.

I cant comment either as my breeding knowledge is not what i suppose it should be , but , i like the name , if the seedbanks are listening , bring us some tangerine widows bongsmilie

just dump it man.

even if you make seeds, those seeds will contain the hermie gene from your ww. and as such, your WWxTD will be prone to Herms itself. granted the seeds should not produce males because i dont think female herms contain the male chromosome, but that chromosome is not required for herm plants to exist.

the only way to make it worthwhile imo, is after the cross is made and the seeds collected, you would have to grow them all out, take clones off each plant, flower the clones, and then select the best clone plants from that grow that do not herm on you. if your lucky maybe a male will grow, but not likely because the seeds came from hermie pollen. so after you flower out the clones, you would keep the mother of youre favorite cut (and dump the rest) and then from the mother you keep, you can take more clones and then either blast it with gibberellic acid or colloidal silver to make (hopefully stable, non hermie) S1s, out of your hermie prone WWxTD F1s.

good luck!

Yeah I'm def not looking for seeds, just looking for weight and quality. I'm wanting to keep the ww in the tent for as long as possible so the ww smoke will be kill. But if these nanners get out of control I'm def gunna have to chop

you should collect some pollen from them and then you can pollenate a small cola on each plant maybe and then you could have a bunch of new strains. just a thought but i dont think they would all turn hermie. ive never seen someone prove it but i also have not had a hermie before

Well see I'm not really wanting any seeds. The only plant eligible of producing viable seeds is the tangerine dream. And IMO the way the looks are looking the tan dream may be my biggest yielder... So I'm def really not wanting to pollenate it
